Karen Finney had a rough go of it on a Thursday evening panel discussion on "CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip."
Finney is a Democrat operative who once worked on Hillary Clinton's failed 2016 presidential campaign. And, for reasons known only to her, she decided to talk about how conservatives and the resistance party banded together to try to defeat President Trump in 2024.
CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings opted to rain on her parade as only he can.
The discussion began with the show's namesake, Abby Phillip, noting that the President had campaigned on being anti-war, but she believes he has governed in opposition to that. (No, he ran on a platform of peace, and sometimes peace requires strength.)
Finney chimed in to reveal the secret cabal of alleged conservatives and Democrats who fought to take down Trump.
"I think we also can‘t ignore ... the millions of people, thousands of people who consider themselves anti-Trump, who were once Republicans, and a whole movement of Republicans," she said.
"I mean, I can remember sitting at a meeting leading up to this election, I‘ve got Bill Kristol sitting here, I‘ve got, you know, former friends, conservatives from across the aisle," Finney continued. "We were all aligned in 'how do we defeat Trump?' It was a meeting ..."
And that's when Jennings delivered a decisive blow: "How'd it work out?"

Everything about that clip is simply gold. From Jennings' laughter and the smile he was unable to erase from his face for minutes afterward. To Finney, having to actually pause to collect herself and reply, "You know what, Scott."
And then watching Phillip trying to rescue her.
Chef's kiss
First of all, where was she going with this? What would compel somebody to draw on the strength of a plot to defeat Trump when said plot was an unmitigated disaster? You lost, Karen. Get over it.
Finney tries to salvage the bit by pointing to Trump's poll numbers, which have him "underwater on every single issue."
“My only point is, I think you can’t ignore the fact that there are thousands of people who consider themselves traditional Republicans ... who no longer see a home in the Republican Party. I don‘t care what Scott says.”
Um, if anyone might want to express a healthy skepticism of polls, it should be Ms. Finney. Polls showed Harris either winning or at least making it a race, and Trump swept all seven swing states in an electoral landslide. Why? Because the dynamic duo of Finney and effective conservatives like checks notes Bill Kristol didn't come up with a good plan.
Additionally, Finney was a Strategic Communications Adviser and Senior Spokesperson for the Clinton 2016 presidential campaign. Does anybody remember what the polls were saying back then? Clinton was a lock to become President, right?
This isn't the first time Jennings has tied Finney up in knots on CNN. He went scorched Earth on Finney back in December after she claimed Joe Biden never lied about the issue of pardoning his son, Hunter. Which, we all know, he did.
