As RedState reported, a now-deceased shooter opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas early Wednesday morning, leaving two detainees dead. Any initial confusion about his motive was quickly cleared up when anti-ICE messages were found on his bullet casings. He also left a handwritten note expressing his desire to terrorize immigration authorities.

That he hit detainees and not ICE agents appears to have been a result of his decision to fire indiscriminately into two vans, both of which had tinted windows. Still, the lives of the two victims are no less valuable just because they weren't government officials. Illegal immigration is not a death sentence, and more innocent people are dead because left-wing violence is simply out of control. 

What's driving that rash of violence? When it comes to ICE, it's hard to argue that the Democratic Party's decision to paint the agency as a modern-day "Gestapo" hasn't played a role. Left-wing politicians and press members have built a permission structure for their radical base by calling ICE agents fascists, a descriptor that suggests they deserve to be taken out by any means necessary. 

Newly released, dramatic footage of the Dallas shooting is painting a very different picture of ICE agents, though. In it, you can see law enforcement officials rushing to aid detainees, putting themselves in the line of fire to protect others. 

Those videos make Democrats look absolutely pathetic. They've been demonizing these hard-working men and women for months on end, inciting violence against them without a second thought. But their selfless actions tell a completely different story. 

The press has been no better, outright promoting apps that allow violent radicals to track the movements of ICE agents. Notably, those apps were used by the shooter in Dallas. Further, networks like MSNBC and CNN have repeatedly had on analysts to trash ICE as authoritarians who need to be stopped. All that insane rhetoric hasn't fallen on deaf ears, as this latest shooting shows, and it's just one of several recent violent attacks, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk. 

When the bullets started to fly, though, those same ICE agents showed who they really are. They put their lives on the line to try to save the detainees in their custody, just as almost any other law enforcement official would have done in a similar situation.

ICE agents are not evil. They are human beings just doing their job of enforcing the law. Comparing them to nazis has already led to people being killed, and it needs to stop.
