Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., on Monday to discuss details for potentially ending the war with Russia.
This meeting comes after Trump's historic summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, which the President has described as a "10 out of 10" productive meeting.
Trump announced that discussions were happening at a rapid pace on Truth Social. He notes that, following a phone conversation between himself, Zelensky, European leaders, and Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte, a meeting would take place, which would hopefully lead to a trilateral summit between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.
The President emphasized the pursuit of a peace agreement rather than a mere ceasefire.
"It was determined by all that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to a Peace Agreement, which would end the war, and not a mere Ceasefire Agreement, which often times do not hold up," he wrote.
"President Zelenskyy will be coming to D.C., the Oval Office, on Monday afternoon. If all works out, we will then schedule a meeting with President Putin. Potentially, millions of people’s lives will be saved."

Zelensky confirmed the planned meeting at the White House through his own post on X, where he revealed that Trump had given him a rundown of the Alaska summit with Putin.
Zelensky also emphasized the need for "America's strength" to help nudge the process along towards peace and he thanked the President for involving him in discussions.
"We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this," said Zelensky.
"On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation."
One would hope Zelensky is on his best behavior this go around. The Ukrainian president's arrival on Monday would mark his first return to the Oval Office since the infamous tag team beatdown administered by Trump and Vice President JD Vance earlier this year.
Times, though, are changing. Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration with Putin in recent weeks over his unwillingness to engage in serious peace talks with Ukraine. The frustration also stems in large part by the fact that the ongoing skirmish leads to America having to donate further weapons to Ukraine.
“We’re going to send some more weapons,” Trump told reporters last month. “We have to; they have to be able to defend themselves. They’re getting hit very hard now."
On Friday, Trump greeted Putin with a significant military flex, as noted by my RedState colleague, Katie Jerkovich, as the leaders were met on the tarmac with a flyover by a B-2 stealth bomber.
Despite media coverage to the contrary, both Putin and Trump walked away from the summit feeling positive about the direction they may be headed towards a peace agreement.
Putin described their meeting as a "constructive atmosphere of mutual respect," while Trump insisted "a lot of progress" had been made.
Will Monday's meeting with Zelensky continue that progress?
