NextImg:Trump Perfectly Trolls White House Press Wanting an Upgrade to Briefing Room

President Trump perfectly trolled the White House press corps after a reporter asked about the possibility of an upgrade to the press briefing room following his recent announcement about the creation of a grand ballroom.

During a White House press conference on Monday, a reporter asked Trump about getting a bit more room and seats added to the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, given all the updates lately at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, D.C.

"You are building a big, beautiful ballroom," one reporter asked, to which Trump replied, "Yeah."

"Could we build a big, beautiful briefing room, add more seats?" he added, to which several others in the press room shouted in agreement.

Trump didn't hesitate for a second. He just shook his head no, smiled, and said, "I don't want to do that."

"I don't want you to be comfortable," he added. "I don't want to do that."

Even though it's fair to say there were many reporters there who do not like the president, the room nevertheless filled with laughter after that comment. Good to see the press was able to laugh a bit at themselves and with the president instead of acting in the contentious way they usually do.

Standing behind the president when he made the comments were Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Attorney General Pam Bondi, who cracked up at Trump's classic response to the reporters.

"No, I don't want to make life comfortable," Trump explained.

During the same Monday presser, the president took time out to praise White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who he said has been doing a great job, as our sister site Townhall.com posted.

"Where's my superstar? Come here, Karoline. Is she doing a good job by the way?" Trump said and called her to join him behind the podium.

Leavitt pointed out that it was the most crowded press room she had seen, and said it was why there was a need to build a ballroom.

As RedState has reported, President Trump recently made news when he dropped information about the construction on the White House grounds of a grand ballroom the likes of which he's seen in Europe, for when leaders come to town to visit.

During his recent interview on the "Pod Force One" podcast with Miranda Devine, the president and host discussed some of the grand ballrooms of Europe, and Trump said it was well past time to have one built at the people's house.

"In the White House, as you know, for 150 years, they've wanted to have a ballroom. They don't have a ballroom," Trump explained. "They have meeting rooms. They have those beautiful ... beautiful meeting rooms."

"But they've never had a ballroom," he added. "A ballroom, meaning someplace you can sit 6 or 700 people if the President of China or France, or the U.K., or [EU President] Ursula von der Leyen comes to town, you give them a big state dinner. We don't have a room like that. At the White House, they have to use a tent."

"And if it's raining, it's soaking wet, soggy, the area is a very low area, and all the water rushes to it. And it's a disaster," Trump continued. "So, I said, you know if I win this second time, I'm gonna build a ballroom. A beautiful ballroom for the White House. And they need that at the White House. They can't do the kinds of things they like to do in their big room. Which is a beautiful reception room, but not as a ballroom."

Construction is expected to begin in September 2025.
