What's that saying about actions and consequences? Former Biden administration officials should probably freshen up on it because they are about to learn a hard lesson. According to a new report, President Donald Trump has removed any claim of executive privilege regarding ex-Biden officials testifying in the House Oversight Committee probe regarding the former president's senility.
Neera Tanden, who now spends her time getting embarrassed by Scott Jennings on CNN, was the subject of a White House counsel letter making it clear that executive privilege claims are "not justified." It goes on to "authorize" Tanden to speak openly and honestly about the condition Biden was in when she testifies in front of the House on Tuesday.
This is what happens when you govern with the assumption you'll never lose power again. When Biden and his handlers started setting norms on fire, including those surrounding continuing executive privilege for past administrations, they never imagined that Trump would regain power. On the contrary, the Biden administration believed its nuking of executive privilege would not only keep Democrats in power but would also end up with Trump behind bars.
Back in mid-2022, it was revealed that Biden waived executive privilege for Trump regarding materials the National Archives were seeking. We now know that the heavily politicized agency was just seeking to establish a predicate for the DOJ to charge Trump with a crime. That led to the infamous Mar-a-Lago raid, Trump's arrest, and years of litigation. We all know how that story ended, but it only ended that way because Trump won the presidency. If he hadn't, Biden and company would have almost certainly gotten away with their gambit.

That's just one example. Biden weaponized executive privilege against Trump and various officials from his first term on numerous occasions, both regarding the legal system and testimony before Congress. Of course, Biden had a different standard for himself. Regarding the now-released audio of Biden being interviewed by special counsel Robert Hur, that was protected through the 2024 election by executive privilege
Well, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, and Trump seems to be comfortable with delivering payback. Instead of letting former Biden officials hide behind claims of executive privilege, he's stripping those protections just as was done to him. To that I say, good. It would be insane to allow Democrats to blow up executive privilege for four years for political gain, only for them to regain it when it's convenient. They set this new standard. They chose to blow up the traditions surrounding executive privilege, and now, they'll pay the price.
