NextImg:Tom Emmer Lights a Match to Tim Walz As the Sanctuary State Governor's Panel Starts With a Bang

In the shadow of ICE protests that have broken out in blue cities like Los Angeles and New York, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a Hearing Thursday with sanctuary state governors' JD Pritzker of Illinois, Tim Walz of Minnesota, and Kathy Hochul of New York. California Governor Gavin Newsom likes the gaslight and the spotlight all to himself, so he was, to no one's surprise, absent.

Also to no one's surprise: the governors defended their sanctuary policies, which shield criminal illegal aliens from ICE detainers and arrests, and their refusal to allow their local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE. GOP Majority Whip Tom Emmer (Minn. 6th District) lit a match to the gasbag that is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Walz shaded and stealthily crafted his opening remarks, where he flat-out lied, saying, "Minnesota is not even a sanctuary state." He also claimed that the Minnesota House of Representatives has not voted on any such declaration and he hasn't signed any such declaration into law. He further claimed that it's the federal government's job, not local law enforcement, to secure the border. And of course, the TDS-riddled remarks, coupled with sad-sack tales about illegal children being kicked out of the country, abounded. Walz even tried to shame the House that when he was part of their body, he took action and they had not.

Yeah, sure.

Emmer, as a sitting representative of the state Walz claims to govern, brought the receipts, debunking Walz's claim that Minnesota is not a sanctuary state.

EMMER: Welcome back to Washington, governor. I'm going to go through a series of facts before I get to my questions, Gov. Walz, you signed the Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill into law in 2023. That bill expanded You supply free healthcare to illegal aliens. You signed the Higher Education Omnibus bill into law in May of 2023. That bill allows illegals to have their college tuition paid for by the state. You signed the Driver's License For All Act into law in March 2023, and that bill allows illegals to receive driver's licenses.

So, you claim you're not a sanctuary state, you just provide free healthcare, free college and driver's licenses to illegal aliens. One reason you're here testifying before us today is because you refuse to cooperate with ICE. While states like Florida and Virginia empower their law enforcement to detain and remove criminal illegal aliens you, sir have done just the opposite.

Your attorney general is directing law enforcement to ignore ICE immigration detainers. Do you agree with the attorney general's guidance?

Tampon Tim started with pleasantries in an attempt to filibuster.

WALZ: First, I would say that my job as governor of Minnesota is to make Minnesota the greatest state in the nation--

Emmer interrupted him.

EMMER: Do you agree with the attorney general's guidance?

Waltz continued to filibuster.

WALZ: What I would say on this is that Minnesota follows all laws...

EMMER: It's a very easy question: if you claim you're not a sanctuary state, you just, I guess you just claimed you support policies... you say you're not a sanctuary state but you support policies that prevent ICE from doing their job. Isn't that right?

Here is where Walz slipped into his usual mode of attack, apologize, detract, then double down. The man is truly not very bright, and it shows.

WALZ: That is incorrect, Congressman. We follow the same laws that were in the Minnesota house, the law has not changed sir.

EMMER: Well, sir, if you'll allow me, I have limited time. That's what you tweeted, by the way, sir, on May 2018, you tweeted, "I support policies that keep law enforcement from enforcing federal laws." On May 17, just this Spring, at the University of Minnesota Law School's commencement ceremony, you said, "Donald Trump's modern-day Gestapo, is scooping folks up off the streets." When you said the words, "Modern-day Gestapo" you were referring to ICE agents. "Gestapo," by the way, sir, was the official secret police of Hitler's Nazi Germany. So you're calling ICE agents modern-day Nazis. Given the attacks on ICE agents that took place in Los Angeles over the weekend, don't you regard your dangerous, inflammatory rhetoric as a problem?

WALZ: [Forgets to turn on his mic as he's speaking, then turns it on] What questions do you want me to answer first?

Mr. Tough Guy and the new symbol of manhood (according to the Dems) when he was on the campaign trail, wimped out. Emmer lit into him, and rightly so.

EMMER: So sir, it saddens me that you refuse to express regret from comparing ICE to Nazis. ICE agents are brave Americans who get up every morning, leave their families, and put their lives in harm's way to protect our country, sir. You, at the very least, owe an apology to these dedicated public servants. I will say, sir, inflammatory rhetoric such as yours, and the other governors on this panel, is responsible for putting a target on the back of every ICE agent who is risking their life to protect our communities.

Minnesota is all too familiar, by the way, with the chaos that ensues when YOU refuse to work with law enforcement to enforce the law. In May of 2020, looting, acts of violence, and arson occurred on your watch in Minneapolis after you refused to bring in the National Guard.

Governor, your agenda is clear: free health care, free college and driver's licenses for illegals while handcuffing law enforcement when they're trying to protect our citizens and their communities. If you think that's not a sanctuary state, YOU SHOULDN'T BE GOVERNOR.

By turning Minnesota into a magnet for illegals, you have opened up our communities to dangerous criminals, including known terrorists, gang members, murderers, and child predators. You have sent a resounding message that if you're a hard-working, law-abiding citizen of Minnesota, your safety and well-being are not the priorities of Tim Walz and his administration. But if you're coming to our state illegally, you're not only welcome with open arms, you're entitled to free stuff on the taxpayer's dime.

This is absolutely disgraceful. Governor Waltz, your sanctuary state agenda has been defined by your utter failure: You have failed to uphold the rule of law, you have failed to uphold our national sovereignty, and most importantly, you have failed the people of Minnesota. The time for radical, sanctuary state policies, sir, is over. The voters made that clear last November when they elected President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance. You remember him, don't you? Governor, the time for real leaders, and real leadership, is now.

That's bound to leave a mark, but Tampon Timmy should be used to it. From Vice President JD Vance to so many others, Walz and his braggadocious sophistry have been debunked, derided, beaten down and dragged out on the street too many times to count.

Emmer's comments could have easily been applied to the overly-botoxed NY Gov. Hochul and IL JB Pritzker too.

Currently I am visiting family in the Chicago area, but chose to stay 50 miles outside of the city center. One: Cook County's high taxes are prohibitive. Two: There are ICE protests going on in The Loop (Downtown Chicago) and I want no part of that mess. Having lived through the Rodney King riots and the George Floyd protests in Los Angeles, like most Americans, I am fed up with the manufactured outrage and destruction of cities in the name of some ginned-up Left-wing op. While Chicago Black Republicans have made a stand and demanded the illegal immigrants be removed from their neighborhoods, Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, and a faction of the City Council continue to throw more fuel on that fire, laugh, then turn around and try to blame Donald Trump for his Gestapo tactics and the reason why citizen's lives are so miserable.

Emmer effectively let them all know they can go sell that crazy somewhere else. This was just the opening salvo. The rest of this hearing had some equally lit moments. Well worth the watch.
