As we’ve reported, Texas Democrat lawmakers fled the state in order to block a quorum to prevent voting on a redistricting measure. I’m pretty sure this type of action was not covered in former President John F. Kennedy’s 1955 influential tome, “Profiles in Courage.”
But to a more recent former president, this kind of anti-Democratic action is somehow uplifting:
Former President Barack Obama praised a group of Texas Democratic lawmakers for fleeing their state to stop a vote on a redistricting bill, calling their actions "inspiring," according to reporting.
Texas state Rep. Gene Wu, who is chairman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, posted on X on Thursday, thanking the former president for meeting with the lawmakers via Zoom.
Wu said the Democrats were "encouraged" by Obama’s words and "remain committed to fighting for democracy, in Texas & across the country."
This is what Barack Obama is proud of—"work that they’ve done.” Meaning, abandoning their jobs and running off to other states in a panic. Or, “we’re all for subverting democracy to ‘save democracy.’”

Even though Democrats in Massachusetts, Illinois, California, and other blue states have mercilessly rigged their states’ districts in their favor, they’re all absolutely freaking out that Texas Republicans would dare to do the same.
It’s long overdue, in my book.
If you’ve ever wondered where Obama’s loyalties lie, he proved yet again they are on the side of “doing whatever it takes”:
ABC News reported that an Obama spokesperson confirmed the meeting, saying he "lauded their fight against the Republican efforts to enact an even more egregious gerrymander in Texas ahead of the midterms."
The former president, who has completely ignored Democrat gerrymandering in the past, has suddenly grown a conscience:
Obama has previously voiced solidarity with the Texas Democrats, saying in an Aug. 5 X post, "We can’t lose focus on what matters – right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections. This is a power grab that undermines our democracy."
Wu seemed to get the infamous Chris Matthews' "thrill up the leg" from Obama's participation:
Wu told ABC News that the Democrats were "especially excited" to have Obama address them via Zoom.
"Having President Obama speak with us and support us is proof that when Texas House Democrats stand up and fight back, we don't stand alone -- we have the support of Democrats at every level who understand that when Republicans attack voting rights in Texas, they're attacking the foundation of our democracy everywhere," Wu told the outlet.
The Democrats are losing this battle and looking like utter fools in the process. Former President Obama’s entry into the argument has only further degraded his already tattered legacy.
It wasn’t that long ago that he was a Democrat icon, a beacon to many (clueless) progressives who thought that “this was the way forward.” Sadly for him, in recent years he appears to be going out of his way to prove his irrelevance.
Not only was your presidency divisive, Mr. Obama, but you gave us Joe Biden—almost without question the most damaging commander in chief our nation has ever been subjected to. You would be better off saying quiet, trying to keep your wife off her toxic podcast, and humbly working on your presidential library —you know, the one that once held such promise but is now overrun with cost overruns, environmental issues, and lawsuits.
Every time you open your mouth, you debase your legacy further.
