On Wednesday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee to answer questions on his budget.
However, Democrats were immediately going after him on other issues. We reported on his encounter with Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), but there was a lot of unhinged action from the Democrats.

The questioning from Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) was particularly over the edge. She asked about the military's involvement in dealing with the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. She berated Hegseth to "be a man," and to list the orders given regarding arrests. She wouldn't let him respond and kept talking over him when he tried to answer. Again, Democrats keep showing they don't know how to speak with Cabinet secretaries. She went truly off a cliff at the end of this clip.
Warning for graphic language:
Hegseth patiently explained that orders were already public. In other words, if she wanted to know and didn't just want to perform at the Senate hearing, she could have asked to see them or found them. Then he explained they weren't "arresting" anyone, that members could detain someone for their safety, but then they turn anyone over to the police.
"You know this," he scolded her. "You're trying to play political games."
Then she asked if he'd authorized U.S military cyber tools "against members of the protest." His look said he thought that was bizarre. He answered, "Certainly, in no way that I'd be aware of." She's just trying to say inflammatory stuff for her five minutes.
The next question was truly wild.
"Have you given the order to be able to shoot at unarmed protesters in any way?" she asked. He must have appeared to laugh at the absurdity of the question because she said, "Don't laugh." Hegseth asked what she even basing this ridiculous assertion on. She claimed his predecessor, under Trump in his first term, said in a book that he had been asked to do this. "Your pooh-poohing of this shows you don't understand who we are as a country," she whined.
No, Sen. Slotkin, it shows you don't. She also excoriated Hegseth, claiming the prior guy had more "guts and b***s than he did. What happened to dealing with people professionally? You're not dealing professionally with that language.
Hegseth decimated the craziness, "Senator, I'd be careful what you read in books and believing it, except for the Bible."
That left her losing her mind, "Oh my God."
It's the left that's been out of its mind with these protests and riots. They're attacking law enforcement because they don't like the law. And Democrats are acting like this behavior is normal, and enforcing the law is somehow extreme. What the Democrats should be doing is de-escalating and supporting law enforcement rather than stoking things.
But, instead, you get unhinged questions like this.
