NextImg:The Press Reach a New Low With Puff Pieces on Colorado 'Free Palestine' Terrorist and 'Islamophobia'

A series of headlines surrounding the "free Palestine" terrorist who set elderly Jewish women on fire in Boulder, CO, are raising eyebrows.

As RedState reported, Mohamad Soliman threw Molotov cocktails at peaceful mourners silently walking to remember the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. He could be seen on video screaming to "end Zionists," and evidence shows the attack was premeditated

Given that, you'd think the press would take a step back and tread lightly when it comes to writing sympathetic pieces about Soliman and his family, all of whom abused the visa process. As this example from USA Today shows, though, you'd be wrong.

She moved to the United States with a dream of studying medicine to transform lives. Then her father was charged with attempting to take them in connection with a fiery assault on pro-Jewish protesters in Boulder, Colorado.

Now, Habiba Soliman, daughter of Boulder attack suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman, faces deportation along with the rest of her family.

The family, originally from Egypt, moved to the U.S. from Kuwait.

It just keeps going from there, with paragraph after paragraph singing the praises of Soliman's daughter, how she wanted to help people, how she was such a great student, and so on. One part even cites "her father," the guy who set people on fire in the name of jihad, as her inspiration. You can't make this stuff up.

Habiba Soliman’s interest in medicine goes back to her father, according to a Colorado Springs Gazette profile celebrating her winning one of the outlet’s "Best and Brightest" senior class scholarships.

She told the outlet that she wanted to study medicine after seeing how her father regained the ability to walk after a difficult surgery. She described the result as “magic.”

Moving to the U.S. from Kuwait provided her new opportunities to pursue her dream. Her favorite activity was volunteering at a local hospital which would help in a “future medical career,” she wrote in her scholarship application.

Later in the article, President Donald Trump's deportation policies are derided because Habiba Soliman and her family are set to be deported. Given it's been confirmed that Mohamad Soliman is an illegal immigrant who overstayed a visa, it's probable that his daughter and the rest of his family did the same thing.

Then there was this piece by WGN in Chicago.

He appeared to have "second thoughts?" Soliman told investigators that he had planned the attack for a year. Videos of him praising "jihad" are available online. He literally set people on fire in an attempt to murder them. By the way, Soliman told authorities he had no regrets, a point that is ironically written in the WGN article.

The two incendiary devices he did throw into the group of about 20 people were enough to wound more than half of them, and authorities said he expressed no regrets about the attack.

Just to keep score here, we now have at least two puff pieces on Soliman and his family, while the press has not written a single profile of any of the victims of his attack.

Of course, no press coverage of a Muslim terrorist attack would be complete without trotting out the "Islamophobia is just as bad" trope. ABC News did that on Wednesday morning.

Notably, both examples of "Islamophobia" cited in the article are two years old, taking place in 2023. Meanwhile, we've had multiple murders and attempted murders of Jews and Jewish allies in just the last month. Never mind the continual harassment and violence occurring at pro-Hamas rallies across the country. Federal hate crime data also shows antisemitic attacks are far more prevalent than anti-Muslim ones. They aren't even close.

This Norm Macdonald tweet from many years ago continues to be evergreen.

What if the press aren't just bumbling, misunderstood idiots who make far too many mistakes in one glaring direction? What if they are just evil? That's something to be considered.
