It has been a while since we looked over at the adrift, dysfunctional crew of the bad ship The Bulwark to see how they have been handling things in the Trump 2.0 era. Much like the sociopaths at The Lincoln Project, we have not heard as much from those political sailors after the demise of their preferred pol, Joe Biden, who melted down like a Jell-O mold left on the engine block of a Peterbilt, and after they failed to prevent the return of their Orange Menace.
Bill Kristol has become a full-fledged (we guess) Democrat, who recently came out to declare that he is now anti-anti-Mamdani. (Whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.) The rest of the crew have been struggling as well, whether it is Tim Miller going full-bore racist in defence of immigrants, or Sam Stein getting tripped up for not actually reading an article he complained about with Lee Zeldin.
So yes, dysfunction continues to rule the decks as Charlie Sykes on the bridge continues to run this ship aground on leftist shoals while flying a conservative flag. For the latest, the outlet turned things over to editorial writer Jill Lawrence, who wanted to address the not-quite-right-leaning topic of how Democrats need to control the narrative on trans issues. Yeah, little mystery that this thing would plow its bow into a liberal reef in short order, but the end result from this condescending outlet is beyond hilarious.
So first, Ms. Lawrence (apologies on assuming gender here) is very evidently pro-trans and she is directing the Democrats to own the messaging on this issue in order to wrest it away from President Trump, who has committed what she describes as “an un-American assault” on those from this protected group. Her solution is to have the Dems take back control of the narrative.
Democrats don’t have to make it easy. There’s no reason for them to fuel the MAGA fires by over thinking, underreacting, and avoiding confrontation. Especially as real people are enduring difficult conditions and sometimes suffering irreversible damage. Democrats hold the high ground and should dominate this debate, not dodge it as a distraction from some other (perhaps easier) subject.
That is a bold, if completely misguided, approach to a topic. But as we shall see, this is reflective of what is seen from that party’s leadership; brave-sounding words meant to have others go out and do the actual work. Much like the firm speeches seen on the steps of the Capitol from Democrats after the Trump inauguration, the politicians talk tough and call for firm action, but it is something they personally will shy away from enacting. They want YOU to take to the streets and battle conservatives; they are too busy.
And The Bulwark is equally gun-shy on this very issue as well. Look at the words seen from Ms. Lawrence: They “should dominate the debate”, and she is against “avoiding confrontation”. Yet, as she advises against dodging discussing the issue, The Bulwark does exactly that. Unlike the rest of the entries across the site, the comments for her column are shut down.
So there you have it, you brave buccaneers battling on behalf of trans issues; you need to speak up and boldly fight for this issue. Just…ummm…do it elsewhere, if you could. Captain Charlie is not ready for conflict on this matter.
