NextImg:‘That’s Not Too Elegant’: Trump Pokes Fun at Jeffries' OBBB House Floor Speaking Stunt

President Donald Trump clearly felt jubilant on Friday at a Fourth of July celebration at the White House, where he poked fun at House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries' (D-NY) never-ending speaking stunt ahead of the vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).

Speaking to guests at the White House, who had gathered for a military family picnic and the official signing of the OBBB, Trump brought up Jeffries and his attempt to stall the vote with a speech that lasted eight-hours-and-44-minutes (36:42 minute mark).

"They [Democrats] have a routine. It's terrible, they say, it's terrible, terrible," Trump said. "You saw that guy standing up for hours yesterday. He didn't know what he was even doing there. I said, 'When's he sitting down?' He's got a towel, he's wiping his face. That's not too elegant."

"I said, what is he doing for so long?" he added. "And he couldn't criticize the bill. He criticized everything else. So, they've [Democrats] developed a standard line, 'we can't let them get away with it. Oh, it's dangerous. Oh, everybody's going to die.' It's actually just the opposite. Everybody's going to live."

"This is just the opposite," Trump continued. "And I just want you to know if you see anything negative put out by Democrats, it's all a con job…Just like the con job of 'Russia, Russia, Russia.' And all the other things they did."

During the event, Trump also spoke about the success of the airstrikes on the Iranian nuclear facilities, crediting the incredible skills of members of our military, as RedState's Becca Lower wrote earlier

He also praised House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for getting Trump's reconciliation package through the House and approved, allowing the president to sign it on the July 4th holiday.

RedState reported on Jeffries's little performance on the House floor, with Susie Moore pointing out the speech woke her up in the wee hours of the morning, and it went on for more than eight long hours.

RedState's Bob Hoge wrote about Hakeem's mind-numbing speech, too, noting how it was anything but magic.

Jeffries has been able to command the House floor via a "magic minute," a privilege for party leaders in the chamber that allows them to speak for however long they want…

The New York Democrat began speaking minutes before 4 a.m. on Thursday and broke McCarthy's record about 1:30 p.m, by approximately 12 minutes. Jeffries ended his speech after eight hours and 44 minutes.

"I feel the obligation, Mr. Speaker, to stand on this House floor and take my sweet time," he said at one point.

And the most hilarious part just might be how Democrats felt about his little grandstanding moment. As RedState's Nick Arama pointed out, the party's reaction reveals their frustration with him.

As we reported, Jeffries' remarks were so uninspiring that Democrats like Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) were falling asleep behind him. Once Democrats realized that, they humorously replaced her so Jeffries wouldn't look so bad. They wanted to show a uniformly supportive picture behind him for his rant.

But it turns out not every Democrat was happy, and some dished to Axios. Members from his caucus were frustrated with how it went down, with even his "inner circle" kept "in the dark about his plans." He told House Speaker Mike Johnson he was going to do about an hour, so that wasn't even true.

Anyway, we'll keep you posted on Jeffries' future. Today, lots to celebrate this Independence Day, patriots!
