Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz blasted the partisan blame game happening following the devastating floods in his state, which has claimed the lives of more than 80 people of all ages.
During a press conference on Monday, Cruz spoke about the Kerr County, Texas, floods over the weekend that have resulted in a huge loss of life after the water rose faster than people could escape it, with a heartbreaking loss of life occurring at the Christian girls' summer camp, Camp Mystic.
Senator Cruz addressed some of this insanity and said that the "partisan finger-pointing and attacks" that blame President Trump are ridiculous.
"One of the things that's predictable is that you see some people engaging in, I think, partisan games," Cruz said. "And trying to blame their political opponents for a natural disaster. And you see that with a Hurricane, with a Tornado, with a wildfire, with this flooding where people immediately say, 'well the Hurricane is Donald Trump's fault.'"
"I think most normal Americans know that's ridiculous," he added. "And I think this is not a time for partisan finger-pointing and attacks."
Unfortunately, in our divided country, leftists almost immediately started making partisan attacks, blaming President Donald Trump and his administration for the deaths from the natural disaster, as RedState has reported.
They blame everything from DOGE to cuts to the National Weather Service to budget reductions at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), but as RedState's Bonchie points out, most of those cuts haven't even taken effect yet, and their predictions wouldn't have changed no matter how high their funding.
Cruz, a father of two daughters, then got emotional as he spoke about the toll this is taking on families who have lost children. (6:19 minute mark).
"Texas is grieving right now," the senator said at the press conference. "The pain, the shock, of what has transpired these past few days has broken the heart of our state. As of yesterday, the confirmed death toll was 82, and those numbers are continuing to go up."
"The children, little girls, who were lost at Camp Mystic, that's every parent's nightmare," he added. "Every mom and dad. Last week, we were picking up our daughter from camp here in Hunt. Our girls have gone to camp here for a decade."
Cruz also talked about the call he made to President Trump in the early hours of the deadly flooding and said he warned the president, "This appears to be bad, really bad. There may be a very significant loss of life unfolding right now in Texas."
In response, the Senator said the president promised that anything the state needed, just ask, and it will happen. (9:58 minute mark)
"And I will tell you, the president said: 'Ted, anything Texas needs, the answer is yes,'" Cruz said.
"Whatever assets you need, whatever resources you need, yes, let us know, and we will provide everything," he added.
"Within hours, we had helicopters, over a dozen helicopters in the air, National Guard, DPS, Game Wardens, Coast Guard, doing search and rescue," he continued, pointing to the incredible videos of the rescues in the area as he praised the courage and heroism of the emergency responders.
At the start of the press conference, Texas officials talked about how many bodies have been recovered as of Monday morning, with 10 campers from Camp Mystic still unaccounted for.
NEW — 75 deceased have been recovered in Kerr County.
