It's bemusing, at times, to reflect on the fact that some of the virile, manly, robust heroes of our youth are growing old. Case in point: On Thursday, we learned that that icon of American screens large and small, William Shatner, was rushed to the hospital after undergoing a medical emergency. Relax: The Captain will be fine.

Beloved Hollywood icon William Shatner was rushed to the hospital after he experienced a medical emergency on Wednesday afternoon.

Shatner, 94, had an issue with his blood sugar while at his Los Angeles home and was hospitalized, TMZ reported.

The actor, best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk on “Star Trek,” was the one to make the call to emergency medical service workers after realizing something was wrong.

An LAFD ambulance was sent to his home as a precaution, the outlet reported.

Shatner was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, where he was doing “good” and “resting comfortably.”

The Captain has already engaged his X account at Warp Factor Eight to reassure fans that he was OK.

That's a relief. Too much Romulan ale, Captain Kirk?

Of course, it would take more than a blood sugar imbalance to take down Captain James Tiberius Kirk - excuse me, William Shatner. He's already beaten cancer, having suffered a bout of Stage IV melanoma, which he stared down and drop-kicked out of his body. It's no surprise he beat this latest emergency, even at 94 years of age. After all, the Klingon language had no word for "defeat" until they encountered Captain Kirk.

William Shatner, 93, Shares His Secrets on Staying Youthful. Number-One: Be Captain James T. Kirk.

Beloved of fans around the world, William Shatner has had a storied career. In addition to "Star Trek," he appeared on a famous episode of "The Twilight Zone," and portrayed police officer "T.J. Hooker" in the television show of the same name. But it's his portrayal of Captain Kirk we remember best. He played the irrepressible Captain Kirk in the original series, voiced the character in "Star Trek - The Animated Series," and appeared in the six "Star Trek" movies with the original cast, as well as alongside the "Next Generation" cast in the movie "Star Trek - Generations." The one thing he never did in "Star Trek," though, was sing; rumor has it he has trouble with trebles.

William Shatner is, sadly, the last of the original series' surviving primary cast members. DeForest Kelly (Doctor Leonard McCoy) passed away in 1999, James Doohan (Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott) in 2005, Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura) in 2022, and Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock) in 2015. The only bridge-crew regulars still alive are Walter Koenig (Ensign Chekov) and George Takei (Lieutenant Sulu).

William Shatner's voyages into the unknown are still ongoing. At age 90, he rode Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin into space, becoming the oldest man to ever do so. Let's see you beat that, Picard.

We're relieved to see that one of the major heroes of our Baby Boomer youth is doing well and will be around to surprise and delight us for some time yet. Live long and prosper, Captain Kirk.
