NextImg:Shutdown or No, Senate GOP Delivers, Confirming 100-Plus Trump Nominees

Votes in the U.S. Senate haven't been going all that well of late. For the past week-and-a-half, the upper chamber has been stalemated over the vote on a clean continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government. Vote after vote, the Senate Democrats have stomped their feet and refused to fund/re-open the government, despite the fact that the CR at issue simply continues funding it at current levels...for six-and-a-half more weeks.

On the bright side, however, Senate Republicans haven't let that deter them from finally pushing through scores of President Donald Trump's nominees, most of whom have been held up for months by — you guessed it — recalcitrant Senate Democrats. Following their August recess, though, Senate Republicans played their trump card, changing up Senate rules to allow them to push nominees through with a simple majority vote.

Breaking. Thune Uses Nuclear Option to Confirm 48 Trump Nominees in a Single Vote

They pushed through the first tranche of 48 nominees in mid-September. On Tuesday, they confirmed 107

Lawmakers voted along party lines to confirm the batch of 107 of Trump’s nominees, a move that whittled down the remaining pending nominees on the Senate’s calendar to double digits. It also came as the upper chamber was deadlocked in the midst of a government shutdown, during which floor votes have largely been dedicated to trying to reopen the government.

...

Some of the most recognizable on the list were former Republican Senate candidate and ex-NFL star Herschel Walker, who was tapped as the U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas, and Sergio Gor, a top advisor to Trump who he picked to be his U.S. Ambassador to India.

Other posts confirmed included a wave of senior administration officials, several prosecutors and the reappointment of Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins to a seat on the commission until 2031.

That's...a lot of nominees. Of course, had Senate Democrats not decided to set their course by the North Star of Opposing Trump at Every Turn at All Costs, most of those confirmations would have been completed already.

Also included in Tuesday's tranche were a pair of associate attorney generals, who received congratulations from Article III Project's Mike Davis.

Cheers to @LeaderJohnThune and Senate Republicans for bulldozing through the Senate Democrats' unprecedented obstruction.

And special congratulations to Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward and Assistant Attorney General Patrick Davis, two friends and fellow warriors who will help @AGPamBondi and @DAGToddBlanche bring much-needed reforms and accountability to the Justice Department.

If Stanley Woodward's name rings a bell, it should. Woodward represented Walt Nauta, one of President Trump's co-defendants in the Mar-a-Lago case, and had his application for a judgeship threatened by one of former Special Counsel Jack Smith's henchmen for his trouble:

Jordan's letter references reports that one of Smith's top deputies, Jay Bratt, acted improperly when trying to secure the cooperation of Trump valet Walt Nauta, who was eventually indicted. Nauta's attorney, Stanley Woodward, reported that Bratt first said Nauta had provided conflicting testimony to investigators and could be charged with giving a false statement, which Woodward disputed. Then Bratt switched tactics, essentially telling Woodward, "That's a nice application for a judgeship you've got there... it'd be a shame if something negative happened to it."

I guess the worm has turned.

Either way, credit where it's due: Good on the Senate GOP for following through on the nominee front.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
