New York Police Department officers filled the streets to honor slain officer Didarul Islam, a nearly four-year NYPD veteran, who was killed in a mass shooting in Manhattan on Monday.

In numerous posts on X on Thursday, pictures and videos surfaced showing the sea of blue for the services and funeral procession of the 36-year-old officer. Islam was killed after he responded to an active shooter situation when a 27-year-old Las Vegas man, Shane Tamura, entered a New York City skyscraper and opened fire, killing four people and injuring several others, as RedState reported

At one point, the rain started falling, and the video of officers standing in the rain for one of their own is something.

During the service, New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch awarded Islam a new title posthumously, that of Detective Didarul Islam.

In an emotional speech, Tisch said Islam, born in Bangladesh, was a son of two cities," who was called to New York at the age of 20 for a better life."

"In his own words, the police were a blanket for the community," Tisch said.

The Commissioner also shared her conversation with Islam's partner, Pablo, who she said told her of his late partner, "Everything there was in a partner, he was just that."

"He worked 12-hour shifts in a busy precinct," Tisch said. "He never stopped working to provide for his family. He didn't look for an easier way; he just showed up and did the work."

"He earned the respect of his department," she added. "With only four years on the job, he did the work of a cop with twice that time and in a command where the work never slowed. But no matter what this job threw at him, you could count on Didarul to get it done and to get it done right."

"And though his journey was cut too short … he lived this job with steadiness, with heart, with conviction, with everything this title represents," Tisch continued.  "So today, it is my honor and my great privilege to promote Officer Didarul Islam to detective first grade."

As my RedState colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell recently reported:

During the Manhattan shooting, Islam was reportedly shot in the back and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds and died.

He was married, and his wife is eight months pregnant with their third child. Islam also leaves behind two young boys.
