House Republicans' efforts to rename the Kennedy Center Opera House after First Lady Melania Trump passed its first hurdle on Tuesday, and the leftist outrage over this is sure to be terrific.

In a House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee vote, the amendment by Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) to rename the iconic opera house on the grounds of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts "First Lady Melania Trump Opera House" passed 33-25, The Hill reported.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Simpson wrote that, "Naming the Opera House at the Kennedy Center after @FLOTUS is an excellent way to recognize the First Lady's appreciation for the arts."

"I am proud to honor her support and commitment in promoting the arts and humanities," he added. “@HouseAppropsGOP.”

The proposal was part of the Interior, environment, and related agencies' annual spending bill and could become law if Congress approves the House GOP spending bill that funds those agencies.

ABC News appears to have already found the first of the meltdowns, with one of the Democrats on the Appropriations Committee claiming that this proposal was somehow "snuck in."

Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) accused Republicans of sneaking in the "divisive" proposal.

"The Republicans have now given the president six times the normal amount of money to run the Kennedy Center, carte blanche over who will be on the board, and how different parts of the Kennedy Center -- perhaps the whole Kennedy Center itself -- will be named, and this amendment confirms that," Pingree said in a subcommittee hearing.

As RedState reported, back in February, Trump appointed himself chairman of the Kennedy Center Board and ousted some board members. Shortly thereafter, he appointed former U.S. Ambassador to Germany and U.S. Envoy for Special Missions, Ric Grenell, as interim executive director.

Grenell has been a fearless interim leader of the famed art center and has made it clear that it should be a place for all Americans, and not just those with a particular political lean.

He recently criticized CNN for the fake news he said it reported about the "Les Misérables" cast reportedly boycotting the opening night performance with President Donald Trump and the first lady in attendance.

As RedState reported, the evening with President Trump and Melania went off without a hitch.

Inside the center on Wednesday night, President Trump and the first lady were greeted with cheers and shouts of "USA, USA!" as our sister site Twitchy reported.

I can hardly wait till the usual Democrat suspects find out about renaming the center after the first lady. It will be golden. So much winning!

President Trump is leading America into the "Golden Age" as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
