We have certainly reached a saturation point in this country where charges of racism now deliver less impact than a Nerf bullet fired from 100 feet. More tiresome is when any reference to slavery is trotted out, as that centuries-old institution has zero bearing on today’s society. Worse still is when this topic is tirelessly invoked by those in positions of authority and privilege, contending they have endured the effects of slavery while achieving one percenter status in this country.
Enter Eddie Glaude Jr., constant fixture on leftist news channels and a professor at an Ivy League university. Glaude never fails to find a way to steer a topic into racism, and he is truly in his element when he can drop in slavery as a reference point. Almost always this involves him devolving into a mewling, emotional monologue that carries more melodramatics than an off-Broadway drama, and just as often it leads to commentary that would embarrass rational thinkers.
The latest is significant because clearly what we see on display is the bad professor noticing all of the media attention is on ICE raids and the ensuing riots, and this is a problem; this subject involves Hispanics and those from other lands and thus it excludes Eddie and his usual cry for media attention. As a result he strains mightily to steer the discussion back into his wheelhouse so he can then peacock in his predictable fashion.
I see a similar effect with what ICE is doing. Forcing people to collude with what they are doing either by way of active cooperation or silence. The harm is concrete and deeply felt in communities.
Now if you can make sense of his logic here, I applaud you. How is the concept of immigrants needing to either cooperate or remain silent with ICE agents the same as…slaves who stole themselves?!?! There is NOTHING in the way of connective tissue here. And to call today’s ICE agents “slave catchers” is not just degrading, it is patently ignorant. Otherwise, Glaude is stipulating that illegal immigrants are in fact slaves, and his opposition to what slave-catching ICE is enforcing means (wait for it, Eddie…) that he wants these people to remain as slaves.
Listening to his saccharine pleadings only makes this impacted logic sound more disposable. For reasons that make sense only to her, Nicolle Wallace frequently brings Glaude on “Deadline: White House,” and she did so for him to address the current issue – and for him to herd the discussion back on him and his favorite subject.
I hope his Princeton students grasp they are facing crippling college debts to be indoctrinated by this level of shallow and frankly lazy pontificating. One gets the sense that passing one of Glaude’s courses is probably quite easy, so long as you take a topic for a final term paper and find a way to inject race/slave essentials into the commentary.
This is the kind of mentality that leads people to believe there were racist bridges built in cities. It is all rooted in the desire to maintain division, enrich the crocodile-town-criers, and ultimately make everyone dumber just for having to endure these emotional bleatings. It is time to point and laugh at these charlatans of education.
Progressive policies have hurt America immeasurably.
