On Friday evening, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a ruling striking down some of the Trump administration's executive orders meant to impose tariffs on imported goods entering the United States.

My colleague Susie Moore wrote a breaking story earlier, on what we know so far about the lengthy (127-page), surprise ruling: (emphasis added)

Well, I predicted there would probably be some significant breaking news late in the day today, it being the Friday of a holiday weekend, but this wasn't what I had in mind: In a stunning 7-4 decision the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has issued a ruling affirming the Court of International Trade (CIT) decision which set aside five of President Trump's executive orders imposing tariffs.

For now, the court is withholding its mandate through October 14, in order to allow for an appeal to be filed. And there will, no doubt, be an appeal forthcoming.

Morning Minute: Gorsuch's Not-So-Subtle Message May Be Getting Through

Reacting to the ruling, President Trump wrote a post on Truth Social, with the headline, "ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT!"

"Today a Highly Partisan Appeals Court incorrectly said that our Tariffs should be removed, but they know the United States of America will win in the end," Trump wrote. "If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong." 

"The U.S.A. will no longer tolerate enormous Trade Deficits and unfair Tariffs and Non Tariff Trade Barriers imposed by other Countries, friend or foe, that undermine our Manufacturers, Farmers, and everyone else," he continued. "If allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America." 

"At the start of this Labor Day weekend, we should all remember that TARIFFS are the best tool to help our Workers," he added, "and support Companies that produce great MADE IN AMERICA products."

"For many years, Tariffs were allowed to be used against us by our uncaring and unwise Politicians," the president said in conclusion. "Now, with the help of the United States Supreme Court, we will use them to the benefit of our Nation, and Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again! Thank you for your attention to this matter.".
