NextImg:Pres. Trump Was Asked About Winning a Nobel Peace Prize; a Country Just 'Formally' Started the Process

Donald Trump was standing on the tarmac in New Jersey earlier on Friday, on his way to the Bedminster golf club, when a somewhat unexpected topic came up during a media gaggle - the Nobel Peace Prize. The reporter's question came amid a slew of questions about Israel and Iran, including an intriguing exchange about the U.S. intelligence community and Iran's nukes, as my colleague Katie Jerkovich wrote.

As Jerkovich shared in an update, the White House hit back immediately on social media, ably debunking the fake news report about DNI Tulsi Gabbard's prior testimony on Iran.

As I hinted, the president was also asked about the possibility of his receiving a Nobel Peace Prize for his role in helping to put out any number of world conflagrations since he's returned to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Pres. Trump then reeled off a lengthy list of possible conflicts: Rwanda, the Congo, Serbia, Kosovo, along with the Abraham Accords from his first term. In fact, he suggested that "[he] should have gotten it four or five times." But he pinpointed one longtime war as "the big one": India and Pakistan.

He added that he probably won't get a Nobel Peace Prize because "[t]hey only give it to liberals."

Former national security advisor and avid anti-Trumper John Bolton sat down with the Washington Examiner, and that topic came up in the story published this week. He pushed out the story on his X account with a string of gratuitous personal attacks on the president.

"Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize, because Barack Obama received one," Bolton wrote, in part. "He won't get it for solving the Russian-Ukraine war. He tried unsuccessfully to claim credit for the recent India-Pakistan cease fire." Predictably, he blathered on about Trump's inability to effect change in the Israel-Iran conflict, including "failing to reach an agreement with Iran."

Now, a country on that list of hot spots has just officially put Trump's name forward for the prestigious prize; Pakistan released a statement Friday on their recommendation for the Nobel Peace Prize:

Under the heading "Government of Pakistan Recommends President Donald J. Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize," the statement read:

The Government of Pakistan has decided to formally recommend President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.

The international community bore witness to unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression, which constituted a grave violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives, including women, children, and the elderly. In exercising its fundamental right to self-defense, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos—a measured, resolute, and precise military response, carefully executed to re-establish deterrence and defend its territorial integrity while consciously avoiding civilian harm.

At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond. This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.

It continued, praising Trump's "legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building," and expressing hopes that "his earnest efforts" will help resolve the issues between Israel and Hamas and the wider war with the Iranians:

The Government of Pakistan also acknowledges and greatly admires President Trump’s sincere offers to help resolve the longstanding dispute of Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan—an issue that lies at the heart of regional instability. Durable peace in South Asia would remain elusive until the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir.

President Trump’s leadership during the 2025 Pakistan India crisis manifestly showcases the continuation of his legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building. Pakistan remains hopeful that his earnest efforts will continue to contribute towards regional and global stability, particularly in the context of ongoing crises in the Middle East, including the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza and the deteriorating escalation involving Iran.

Most of the world has the same hopes for peace and, as they put it, "global stability." Perhaps that can happen, with sustained effort and God's providence. Never say never on that prize, in other words.
