I love this headline from Reuters:
Trump's approval dips as Americans worry about economy, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds
Oh my gosh, how bad is it? Is Trump in trouble, did his numbers plummet?
Turns out his overall approval rating in the poll fell by a statistically insignificant one point. Batten down the hatches!
WASHINGTON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's approval ticked slightly lower in recent weeks as Americans worried about the health of the U.S. economy and the Republican's ability to contain rising prices, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The three-day poll, which closed on Sunday, showed 41% of respondents approved of Trump's performance as president, down from 42% in a September 5-9 poll.
Here’s what they didn’t emphasize in their headline: the GOP outperforms the Democrats on most of the key issues.
The Reuters story also focused on Americans’ views regarding the economy:
Only 35% of poll respondents approved of Trump's stewardship over the economy, and 28% gave him a thumbs up on his handling of their cost of living, with both readings slightly lower than in previous polls. Trump returned to the White House this year after promising in his election campaign last year to fix the economy.
Buried lower in the text, however, is this little nugget:
While the economy has weighed on Trump's approval ratings, poll respondents more often picked the Republican Party over the Democratic Party - 34% to 24% - for managing economic policy.
In fact, respondents chose the GOP on crime, immigration, foreign conflicts, and, surprisingly, despite the Dems’ endless inflammatory rhetoric, gun control. If you’re a Democrat with your eye on the ’26 midterm elections, none of this is good news.
And it’s not the only poll that should give them concern:
Illegal immigration, which Trump slammed the brakes on in his first day in office, was not surprisingly a strong suit for him. Reuters tries to scare you with their “mass arrests” sentence, but the numbers don’t lie:
Trump's approval rating continues to be buoyed by the relative popularity of his immigration policies, which include mass arrests of people suspected of not being in the country legally. Some 42% of poll respondents gave Trump a thumbs up on immigration, unchanged from earlier this month. It was Trump's highest rating on any single issue in the Reuters/Ipsos poll.
Americans still have many concerns, as they should, and they’re right to be keeping an eye on the economy, foreign conflicts, and leftist political violence. But for the most important issues of the day, the polls show which party they trust more to do things right—and it’s not the Democrats.
Editor’s Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
