As RedState reported earlier, Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) has emerged as a spokesperson of sorts for illegal immigrants in Arizona amid the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration in America, periodically attempting to visit the Eloy, AZ ICE detention facility and coming back with reports alleging dire conditions.
More recently, Ansari has made it a point to refer to detained illegals as her Third Congressional District "constituents," which is an interesting choice of words considering that when one refers to constituents or constituencies, typically they're talking about people who pay taxes and vote, aka American citizens, as my colleague Mike Miller observed in his write-up.
Undeterred from the criticism, Ansari, a member of the MS-13 Caucus who traveled to El Salvador, has insisted that "Constituents include citizens, green card holders, DACA recipients, asylum seekers, refugees — and yes, people in ICE detention in Arizona. Members of Congress shouldn’t pick and choose who matters or who deserves help."

In a classic display of Democrat dumb-dumbery, Ansari has since tripled down on her claim, talking down to a reporter in response to questions about it, alleging she looked up the definition and claiming that it meant something other than what her critics have asserted, that it did not mean "voter."
But it's something else she said in her remarks that could come back to bite not just her but other Democrats in the 2026 midterms, specifically as it pertains to taxpayers having to foot the bill for whatever illegal immigrants need (bolded emphasis added):
So, I didn’t realize this was such a controversy until the right-wing media started attacking me for using the word. So I googled the word ‘constituent.’ The definition of constituent is somebody who is part of a community, doesn’t matter what their legal status is.
If somebody is an asylum seeker, if somebody has a green card, if somebody is a U.S. citizen, if somebody lives in the community, I represent them. Constituent does not mean voter. I don’t care if these -- if none of these individuals can vote for me; I don’t give a s**t. I care about making sure that the United States government, with our taxpayer dollars, is treating human beings with dignity and respect. So, yes.
Watch:
I was immensely proud to see a Congressman from North Carolina, Pat Harrigan from NC-10, set the record straight in response:
A Member of Congress who brags she had to “Google” the word constituent has no business writing laws.
Constituents are hardworking American citizens, the people who elect you. Not illegal aliens. Not asylum shoppers.
When you say “I don’t care if they can’t vote for me,” you admit it. You don’t represent Americans, you represent everyone but them.
When Ansari replied and said she was there on behalf of a woman and alleged green card holder who Ansari says has been denied medical care for leukemia while she was in detention, Harrigan again blasted back:
You say: “The women I met have committed no crimes—seeking asylum is not a crime.”
TRUTH: Your poster child was ARRESTED smuggling an illegal alien with FAKE DOCUMENTS.
You say: “She has leukemia, coughing up blood, denied care for 7 months.”
TRUTH: She’s been seen by medical staff 13 TIMES and cleared EVERY time. When arrested, she told law enforcement she had NO medical issues and took NO meds.
You say: “I don’t believe tax dollars should torture people.”
TRUTH: What tortures Americans is your silence when CITIZENS are killed by illegals—and your outrage only when smugglers get caught. I represent CITIZENS. You represent EVERYONE BUT THEM.
DHS has also formally weighed in, disputing Ansari's claims about her so-called "constituent"::
Arbella Rodriguez Marquez, has been seen by a medical professional at least 13 times at Eloy Detention Facility.
Each time she has been found to have no medical issues.
In fact, when she was arrested by @CBP for attempting to smuggle an illegal alien with fraudulent identification in her vehicle through the Nogales, Arizona port of entry, she told law enforcement she had no medical conditions and was not taking any medications.
Lemme see. Who should we believe? DHS and Harrigan, or the Congresswoman who traveled to El Salvador to plead for the release of an alleged MS-13 member and accused domestic abuser, and who also believes the hard-working, law-abiding American taxpayer should foot the bill for illegal immigrants?
Really tough choice there, hmm?
Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
