There has been an occupation of the streets outside the Portland ICE facility for months by the anti-ICE crew.
Over that time, there's been violence as well as harassment of the agents and the residents of the neighborhood. A resident even brought a lawsuit against the city because of the disruption. People walking through the area were treated to the vile sayings spewed all over the buildings. The actions have largely gone uncovered by the national media. However, there has been great work from brave journalists on the ground for months, including Katie Daviscourt and Shelly Boufferache (@hunnybadgermom), and we've covered some of their reporting.

But you wouldn't know if you listened to leftist officials like Mayor Keith Wilson. Here he was about a week and a half ago, denying there was any violence and claiming that videos were recycled from "a half decade" ago. This was some video.
All the actions over the past few months since June, and he acts like they never happened. And Democrats wonder why they have no credibility. He's trying to convince us it's all just recycled videos from five years ago, despite there even being legal action taken against the city for their failure to deal with the problem.
Then there was this festival of foolishness from The New York Times' Nick Kristof, trying to mock Trump but only succeeding in making himself look ridiculous.
He's not near the ICE facility at night, and yes, the feds have had to disperse the anti-ICE crew with tear gas and pepper balls. Does he know the facility is boarded up after the anti-ICE crew breached it and broke out the doors in June?
He doesn't care about what the residents living in low-income housing across the street from the ICE facility have had to go through, or what the agents have endured.

But Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wasn't having any of that. She visited the Portland facility on Tuesday. She checked things out from the roof.
Warning for graphic language:
Noem later told Fox's Jesse Watters that she met with officials, including the mayor. She said she would "cover him up" with "four times the resources" to protect the people there if the local officials continued to leave the federal agents hanging out to dry.
So their recalcitrance is only going to result in a greater federal presence. Notice Noem is aware of what the residents are going through, even if the mayor doesn't care.
The look from the Chief of Police Bob Day seemed to say it all.
It looks like it may be a new day in Portland.
