


Prominent Democratic leaders are chiming in after a gunman shot at former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the former president giving a speech before shots rang out. After being tackled by Secret Service, the former president stood back up and blood could be seen on Trump’s ear and face.
President Joe Biden indicated in a post on X that he had been briefed on the shooting. “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” the post continued:
Former President Barack Obama said in an X post, “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy,” and that “we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt”:
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called on her followers to “pray that all those in attendance at the former President’s rally today are unharmed.”
As one whose family has been the victim of political violence, I know firsthand that political violence of any kind has no place in our society. I thank God that former President Trump is safe.

Trump’s campaign released a statement affirming that he is “fine” and has been treated at a local hospital. The shooter is believed to have been killed by the Secret Service. One of the rally’s attendees was also killed.
