NextImg:Nice Timing: NY Times 'Tech Guild' Goes on Strike One Day Before the Election

Put it in the “it couldn’t have happened to nicer people” file. The New York Times Tech guild—600 members who are in charge of powering the outlet’s digital operations—went on strike Monday, hours before the most crucial election in our lifetimes.

Regardless of your feelings about the paper—and mine are mostly negative—it’s a heck of a time to stage a walkout:

The guild said in a statement that members would begin protesting outside the Times headquarters on a daily basis, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, according to the New York Times.

The planned walkout came after a vote on Sept. 10 to go on strike at a critical juncture if a deal wasn't made: Election Week. Anticipation and interest in the 2024 election is at a fever pitch, and the New York Times has the largest online subscription base of any American newspaper and one of the most highly trafficked news websites.

Warning: if this thing continues, you might not be able to get your biased, hysterical election coverage on Tuesday—a day that will hopefully be an utter repudiation of wokeism and progressivism and could send Times writers to years of therapy to try and discover how they became so utterly out of touch with the American people.

Hopefully. I don’t want to get cocky now, because the Fat Lady has not sung and this thing could still go either way.

Regardless of the outcome, there’s still something glorious about a union smacking the “Grey Lady” one day before an election. Live by the sword, die by the sword:

Please don’t play Wordle, they beg:

The guild said it was asking readers to honor its digital picket line by not playing Times Games products, such as Wordle, and not using the Cooking app. It added that it had filed numerous unfair labor practice charges against The Times with the National Labor Relations Board over the company’s return-to-office mandates and its attempts to interrogate members about their intentions to strike.

The Times long ago jettisoned any semblance of objectivity, and in recent years, they‘ve become a pathetic DNC mouthpiece and are now as predictable as the sunrise. It’s impossible to feel sorry for them even as they face significant obstacles right before the Big Day.

You reap what you sow.
