New polling has crushed Democrats' fantasy about their chances of regaining power through their public opposition to President Donald Trump's immigration policy.
According to Politico's Playbook on Thursday, there is more support from Democrats and Independents for Trump's actions to end the massive influx of illegal immigrants in our country than the party might have believed.
The polling suggests Trump's actions could bring in swing voters ahead of the 2026 midterms for the Republican Party.
The report read:
There was even greater Democratic (and independent) support for Trump's approach to immigration, suggesting opposition attacks on his controversial deportations are not widely resonating.
In total, 49 percent of voters approved of the administration's handling of immigration, vs. 33 percent who disapproved. Strikingly, a quarter of all Kamala Harris 2024 voters approved of the president's immigration policy. That's quite a number.
The poll also suggested that Trump can continue to make inroads with the Democratic voters on the economy.
The report read:
An eye-catching 22 percent of Dems said the president's handling of the economy makes them more likely to support the Republican candidate in their district in the midterms — despite the chaos of the past three months. (Caveat: There will of course be real-world economic data between now and November 2026 that shifts these numbers either way.)
Politico's Rachel Bade shared the results of the poll and wrote on X, "I have been very curious abt if -- not if... more like WHEN -- all these ICE riots & protests will blow back on Dems. New polling in [Playbook] this AM suggests it likely will."
"Why? [Because] a not insignificant chunk of dem voters approve of Trump's immigration policies. Plain & simple," she added.
CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings also reacted to the news and wrote, "Dems put all their chips on the illegals. Whoops."
As the report noted, the poll was taken before the start of the chaos we've seen on our screens at the anti-ICE riots and protests across the country. So, it remains to be seen how that will affect these numbers.
However, RedState has reported on numerous polls that suggest Americans back Trump's administration's deportation actions.
According to a new survey released on Monday from the League of American Workers (LAW) and TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP), nearly six out of ten registered voters support the administration's "pace of deportations … prioritizing individuals with criminal records."
And when those numbers are broken down, a vast amount of the support comes from Hispanic voters. The survey found that 53 percent of Hispanic voters said they supported it, and another 27 percent said they strongly supported it.
The TIPP survey is just the latest example of the Democrat narrative about the LA riots being destroyed. RedState's Nick Arama recently pointed out that Americans overwhelmingly supported Trump's response to the riot by calling in the National Guard.
Fifty-nine percent of American likely voters approved of Trump's deployment of the National Guard, 39 percent disapproved, and 2 percent were undecided. Digging into the numbers, 89 percent of Republicans, 56 percent of independents, and even 37 percent of Democrats approved. When you have that many Democrats agreeing with Republicans and Independents, the Democrats may have a problem.
People are looking at the violence and the politicians. They're seeing the locals fail to handle things. Then you have Trump saying, "I'm going to help stop it with the National Guard." Meanwhile, all the Democrats are doing is yelling at Trump.
Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
