The American people reelected President Donald Trump for several reasons. But one that was at the top of the list was ridding the country of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in education, the workplace, and in the federal government. Whatever it is, getting into college, applying for a job, or anything else, all Americans want to be judged on their merits and, as Dr. Martin Luther King so famously said, "by the content of their character." As is often the case, goofy ideas implemented by liberals might "mean well," but have disastrous consequences. And as we have learned, DEI is the poster child for disastrous consequences.

A new poll conducted by AP-NORC may just reveal what conservatives have thought all along about DEI, that it actually hinders the very people it is supposed to "help." The poll surveyed 1,437 adults between July 10-14. It showed that less than half of Americans believe that DEI programs help the people they were intended to help. But the poll gets even more interesting. Around 40 percent of black respondents, and one-third of Hispanics, said they believe that DEI programs increase discrimination against black people. One quarter of white respondents agreed. When asked if DEI causes more discrimination against Hispanics, all three groups were closely split.
What is more than likely not shocking to conservatives: The majority of the white respondents said they were Democrats who believed that DEI programs reduced discrimination against blacks and Hispanics. Just one quarter of white independents and Republicans agreed. Of those polled, 28 percent believed that DEI reduces discrimination against Asians, and 25 percent said they believed that DEI reduces discrimination against women. The poll also showed that between 33 percent to 41 percent of those polled did not think DEI programs made any difference.
That old saying, "Timing is everything," also applies to polling. Back in 2021, the same poll was taken while the country was still in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, and nationwide protests were still going on. The numbers were very different, with 61 percent of blacks, 48 percent of Hispanics, and 46 percent of Asians feeling there was more discrimination against them.
During his first week in office, President Trump signed an executive order immediately ending DEI programs and practices in the federal government and in the private sector, including education. But while DEI may be disappearing from the federal government, those who run America's colleges and universities are hanging on to DEI for dear life. Many of those institutions of higher learning are making what appear to be sincere efforts to remove DEI offices and programs. But just as many others are refusing, and merely changing the names of offices and programs to sneak DEI in under the watchful eye of the Department of Education and the federal government.
President George W. Bush once used the phrase, "the soft bigotry of low expectations." It is the perfect explanation of the leftist invention of DEI. The left believes that minorities need "help" to succeed or not be victims of rampant racism. It is just more leftist feel-good virtue signaling, and is itself a racist notion. Even though some are trying to rebrand DEI, Americans of all backgrounds are getting tired of the racial bean counting and welcome the imminent death of DEI.
