The Great Land's senior Senator, Princess Lisa Murkowski (R, supposedly - AK), is in the news again, this time suggesting that she might consider bailing on the Republican Party and becoming an Independent. That's not surprising to those of us here in the Great Land who have followed Princess Lisa's career; I'm not enamored of the term RINO (Republican in Name Only) as I think it's far too liberally (hah) applied, but in this case, it certainly applies. As an example, I might point out our last election, in which Princess Lisa tossed Democrat Mary Peltola some props at the cost of Republican Nick Begich III, who ended up winning.
Now she's thinking, it seems, of matching party affiliation to action, and it's ranked-choice voting that may allow her to get away with it.
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal critics in the Senate GOP, said in a podcast on Monday that there are certain situations in which she’d consider becoming an independent and caucusing with Democrats.
“There may be that possibility,” she told Galen Druke in an interview excerpt of his GD Politics podcast, scheduled to post in full on Tuesday.
Druke asked Murkowski how she’d respond if Democrats won three seats in the 2026 midterm election, “and they say, we’re gonna let you pass bills that benefit Alaskans if you caucus with us.”
“You’ve started off with the right hook here, is ‘if this would help Alaskans,’” she told Druke.
Alaskans would be helped by having a Senator who wasn't awarded a Senate seat like a feudal title, but to give the devil her due, Princess Lisa is a survivor; she knows her coalition, she knows how to maintain that mess of Anchorage/Juneau Democrats and squishy Republicans, and she knows how to win elections, even winning one as a write-in candidate.
And ranked-choice voting just makes it easier for her to do this. However, she denies crossing Jordan completely and becoming a Democrat:
But switching parties likely isn’t the answer, she said in the podcast.
“My problem with your hypothetical is that as challenged as I think we may be on the Republican side, I don’t see the Democrats being much better,” Murkowski said. “And they’ve got not only their share of problems, but quite honestly, they’ve got some policies that I just inherently disagree with.”
Now, let's parse that statement for a moment: "...I don't see the Democrats being much better." Now, there's only one way you can interpret that; it's that Princess Lisa sees the Democrats being better, just not much better. There's really no other way to read that, be it deliberate or a Freudian slip. In this, Princess Lisa follows the old aphorism that states, "Republicans call it a gaffe when they accidentally tell you something wrong; Democrats call it a gaffe if they accidentally tell the truth."
And, of course:
Murkowski’s office was unable to provide a comment for this post before publication.
You don't say.

Here's the podcast conversation mentioned above, by the way, and you'll note a typical piece of leftist dishonesty; the leading line on this X post states:
"BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski said it’s possible she will switch parties and become a Democrat. This is huge.
It's not huge, it's a lie, because she doesn't say that.
But Princess Lisa did go on a leftist podcast with a leftist Democrat talking head to discuss Alaska politics. That's not out of character for her. Not by a damn sight.
Ranked-choice voting (RCV) should be on the 2026 ballot for another attempt at repeal. Last year, we came within a few hundred votes of repealing this idiotic system, despite being outspent ten-to-one by money from Outside. We'll see what happens this time. Princess Lisa is up for re-election in 2028, and if we can dump RCV...
