NextImg:NEW: JD Vance Speaks for Normal People After Ukraine Activists Once Again Pester His Young Family

It bears repeating that JD Vance just might be the most normal person to ever become vice president. As he chronicled in his memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," then later recounted on the 2024 campaign trail, he grew up in poverty and with what could be called (as an understatement) a difficult family life, yet still prospered, worked his way through college and law school, then served our country as a Marine.

Only in recent years has he has dipped his toe into public life, first as the result of that best-selling book, then as a U.S. senator. But as we wrote last weekend, several protestors--including members of activist groups that support Ukraine--decided it would be perfectly normal to harass Vice President Vance and his young family while they were on a skiing vacation in Vermont.

Fast-forward to this weekend, when, pro-Ukraine activists once again pestered the Vance family, this time, inexcusably, while the dad was on a walk with his 3-year-old child. VP Vance shared the story on his X account on Saturday:

Loading a Tweet...

He begins by writing:

Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of “Slava Ukraini” protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared.

I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed.)

He adds that while "it was a mostly respect conversation," it isn't the way normal people act. He writes, "[I]f you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a sh*t person."

This needs to be called out, because he's 100 percent right. There's a time and a place for protests, but harassing politicians when they're away from their political environment, on their own leisure time, is not correct. This poor behavior of course belongs at the feet of people like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who infamously helped rile up far left protesters over abortion. Later, not only were there raucous protests outside the homes of Supreme Court justices, but an assassination attempt was made against one of them. It's no coincidence that the jurists happens to be Conservative, or how Democrats disgustingly circled the wagons because of political differences:

It need to be asked, though, about those doing the protesting: Do these people think they'll change even one mind with these tactics?

On a lighter note, as my colleague Nick Arama wrote earlier on Saturday, Vance appears to have a healthy sense of humor about the memes of him that people are making and sharing all over social media.

To borrow from the great Monty Python troupe, who knew a little bit about humor, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
