NextImg:Never Forget: Zohran Mamdani's Statements on Murdered NYPD Officer Have People Seeing Red

The gunman in the mass shooting incident that took place at the 345 Park Avenue building in New York City in the early evening hours on Monday night ended the lives of four people before turning the gun on himself.

Among them was 36-year-old off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam, who was working as a security guard. Islam, a four-year veteran of the force, was a father of two, and his wife is 8 months pregnant with their third child.

Mayor Eric Adams provided a stirring tribute to Officer Islam in the aftermath, noting that "He was an immigrant from Bangladesh and he loved this city." Adams went on to say that Officer Islam "embodies what this city is all about. He's a true-blue New Yorker, not only in [the] uniform he wore but in his spirit and energy of loving this city."

Adams, of course, is running for reelection, and disgraced former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is also running. Both of them made it a point after the mass shooting to note that the leading candidate in the race, Democrat Socialist Zohrnan Mamdani, has a history of anti-police rhetoric and calling for defunding.

But after news of the shootings broke (and before we learned of Islam's passing), Mamdani immediately made a pivot, expressing concern for the officer and saying all victims would be held "in my thoughts." He also noted his alleged appreciation for the first responders who were at the scene:

Later, Mamdani, who in 2020 tweeted "the NYPD is racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety," would say, "At this moment of mourning and grief, I want to thank law enforcement for their response to the horrific shooting on Monday, and their work in keeping New Yorkers safe." He's also put out tweets on X where he talks about meeting with Islam's family.

Shockingly, some in the MSM confronted Mamdani on Wednesday over his past statements. Not surprisingly, he is pretending to have evolved on the matter:

Asked about the comments Wednesday, Mamdani distanced himself from previous statements where he was critical of police, saying he was expressing a frustration shared with many New Yorkers in the aftermath of Floyd’s death, adding he believes New Yorkers should not have to choose between safety and justice.

“Despite what others may say, my vision is not to defund the police. It is in fact to allow those officers to respond to the serious crimes that many of them signed up to address,” Mamdani said.

Except he has literally called to defund the police countless times.

It's a record his critics aren't going to let him - nor other Big Apple residents - forget ahead of the November mayoral election:

For the love of all that is good and decent in this world, please wake up, New York City residents, before it's too late.

Editor’s Note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed Democratic Socialist and has a real chance to become the next mayor of New York City.
