On Tuesday, the House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency held a hearing where the issue under discussion was "Locking in the DOGE Cuts: Ending Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for Good."

In her opening remarks, Chairwoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) noted that "DOGE has staunched the flow of waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending" and said that Congress needed to act to "reverse that unnecessary [spending] by rescinding dollars it appropriated" for this year that DOGE had flagged in their reviews.

One of the more interesting moments in the hearing, however, came when woke Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) gave a word salad on Iran that would have made even Vice President Kamala Harris blush, stating "Maybe we need to start leading with the people in the middle of what it is that is guiding us instead of following one person."

Another eye-opening moment during the hearing came courtesy of Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM), one of the most unserious members of Congress, who had a placard behind her that referenced poll numbers from what she claimed was a recent poll on where Americans stood on both DOGE and its former advisor, Elon Musk.

The problem, however, was that the poll numbers added up to 110 percent, not 100:

This was a point Rep. Brian Jack (R-GA) brought to Stansbury's attention:

Jack: "Just a point of clarification. The poll behind you, behind our ranking member, it adds up to 110 percent. Just wanted to clarify, is it meant to add up to 110 percent, or is that an error?”

Stansbury (embarrassed): "This is from a Quinnipiac poll that was held two weeks ago, and this is the data that was provided. There’s a wealth of information, including information about Donald Trump’s falling poll numbers. So you should take a look. Thanks."

After Jack yielded back his time to MTG, she noted that "The gentleman yields, and it still adds up to 110 percent. That’s a fake poll right there."

The number that was wrong was the 67 percent number. It was actually 57 percent, according to the poll Stansbury referenced.

That said, if you're going to come to a Congressional hearing armed with incorrect information that makes you look foolish in the process, you might not want to act too surprised at why approval ratings for Congress are much worse than the people you're there to criticize.
