Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.

Deconstructing the Narrative of the Resistance Judiciary
I do know that other than giving a thrill up the leg of those who already agree with them, this is about the lamest virtue signal I've ever seen. And I am thoroughly embarrassed for the once vaunted judiciary.
Was It All 'a Grand Conspiracy'? Devin Nunes Weighs in Ahead of James Comey Arraignment
It certainly seems that Nunes is hinting at potential criminal implications for a conspiracy that continued all the way through August of 2022, in which case, those banking on the statute of limitations to save their bacon may be, well, SOL.
No, Washington Isn’t Abandoning Taiwan
Despite some people’s wishful thinking, President Trump has not turned on Taiwan, nor does the administration harbor any ill will toward the independent island—actually, quite the opposite.

Federal Judge Orders Chicago Cops to Stop Carrying This Particular Handgun
The gun control lobby and their political allies may be trying to build a stronger case against Sig than what the available evidence presents at the moment, but the P320 still seems like the next obvious target for the anti-gunners given their strategy of trying to enact piecemeal bans on particular pistols instead of prohibiting the entire category of handguns.
It Has Come to This: Chicago Police Told to Abandon ICE Officers Who Were Attacked in a Gunfight
Democrats have every right to argue for a different immigration policy and to legally protest Trump's move. But they aren't doing anything remotely like that: they are embracing rapists, gang members, and human traffickers.
Even NBC Knows It's the Schumer Shutdown and That Democrats Own It
When even NBC’s flagship Sunday program points out your hypocrisy, you know the narrative is falling apart.
Is Being Insanely Stupid Actually a Cunning Democrat Strategy?
Oh, well. The failure of our enemies is our opportunity. We just have to make the most of it.
All of Virginia must defeat him at the ballot box if he continues to refuse to withdraw. And we must also defeat the two women on his ticket who refuse to hold him truly accountable.
Today on Capitol Hill...
It's Shutdown Monday, as we roll into Day 6 (? — I've lost count) of the Schumer Shutdown. No hearings or meetings are set today for the critters, but the Senate plans to vote again tonight on the continuing resolution to fund/reopen the government.
The Senate is scheduled to vote this evening — for the fifth time — on advancing the House-passed bill to fund federal agencies through Nov. 21. There are no indications yet that additional Senate Democrats will vote for the GOP funding measure. Only three have done so up to now.
But Senate GOP leaders continue to believe that enough Democratic senators will cross the aisle eventually to pass the Republican CR, so they aren’t abandoning their strategy of forcing successive votes. If Democrats block the measure again, Senate Majority Leader John Thune can set up another vote for Tuesday. If that fails, the next vote wouldn’t be until Thursday.
White House What's Up
It's a rare Monday with nothing on President Trump's formal schedule...But I have a feeling we'll hear from him a time or three.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will hold a press briefing at 1:00 PM Eastern.
Keeping Up With the Cabinet
Admin. Environmental Protection Agency - Lee Zeldin — Over the weekend, Zeldin sat down with Fox Business to highlight the EPA's efforts to streamline their work and bolster the America First agenda.
Full Court Press...
We're he-ere. It's the first Monday in October, so that means it's Opening Day for the Supreme Court. There are two cases set for oral argument on Monday morning:
- Villarreal v. Texas — Whether a trial court abridges the defendant's Sixth Amendment right to counsel by prohibiting the defendant and his counsel from discussing the defendant's testimony during an overnight recess.
- Berk v. Choy — Whether a state law providing that a complaint must be dismissed unless it is accompanied by an expert affidavit may be applied in federal court.
There's also been some activity in the lower courts over the weekend — most notably in the Oregon National Guard deployment case:
And...if you happened to miss it, on Friday, I published my SCOTUS Scorecard regarding how the Trump administration is faring before the high court so far.

Lots to keep an eye on, including:
As noted above, we've arrived at the First Monday in October. And for law geek/SCOTUS fan types like me, it's almost like Christmas. Okay, not really, but the court being back in session does give us more to talk about, though they've kept busy with Emergency Docket rulings throughout the "off season."
With the first oral arguments being heard today, it will be a month or two before they start handing down formal decisions, but I'll be thinking of ways in which to highlight what we can look forward to in this 2025 term in the interim.
For now, this is this morning's earworm — irreverent, I suppose, but somehow, it just seems to fit the formal return of our black-robed solomonic set.
Wake up — it's Monday!

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
