Today on Capitol Hill...
All (or most) eyes may be on the shutdown saga, given tonight's midnight deadline, there are, in fact, several Senate hearings of note on the Hill Tuesday, including:
It sounds like things were pretty much a bust in Monday's meeting between President Trump and congressional leaders, largely because Dem leadership somehow thinks that the majority party should just undo everything it just did to rein in spending.

The president is starting out his Tuesday at Quantico, where he'll deliver remarks to the Department of War after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth delivers his. He's set to make an announcement at 11:00 AM Eastern from the Oval Office. In the afternoon, he'll sign executive orders.

Full Court Press...
There were a couple of court decisions of note on Monday:
The deadline for funding the government expires tonight at midnight. We'll either have a shutdown (which...could be interesting) or a continuing resolution that carries us into November.
The Supreme Court starts its 2025 term next Monday.
I'm hesitant to write on this before we know how it will all shake out, but Hamas got an offer yesterday they really can't refuse. That, of course, doesn't mean they won't — it's a bit naive to assign rationality to the terrorist group.
But as we near the two-year anniversary of the horrific October 7 attacks, the clock is ticking, and it sounds like things will go very poorly for Hamas should they decide not to avail themselves of the extended offer.
At this point, as Trump notes, all the major players in the region are on board. And if Hamas doesn't take the deal, Israel's essentially been given the green light to end them.
So...we'll see. I won't even cop to cautious optimism on this. All I know is that the hostages need to come home, and this needs to end.
Wonder what he charges?
