As for how long the shutdown will last, well, that's anyone's guess. As Punchbowl notes:
The House is out of town. Senate leaders aren’t negotiating. Trump is openly mocking Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on social media. The chances of a quick resolution to the impasse are low — unless one side abruptly folds.
The one thing to note is that two more Democrats/moderates (Catherine Cortez-Masto (NV) and Angus King (ME)) sided with the Republicans in Tuesday evening's vote (in addition to John Fetterman (PA)). How long will others be willing to hold out?

President Trump's busy Tuesday (Quantico speech, several Oval Office announcements/executive order signings) gives way to a somewhat quieter (ostensibly) Wednesday, with only an executive order signing session set for late afternoon.
Vice President JD Vance was on offense on CBS News this morning, laying the blame for the shutdown squarely at the feet of Senate Democrats.

We had a doozy of a decision out of Massachusetts on Tuesday, and an interesting development out of the 5th Circuit:

We're getting closer to the First Monday in October and the Supreme Court being fully back in session. They've got a lot on their plate these days (more than normal with the Emergency Docket cases), and we should be getting some more decisions on applications for stay/petitions for certiorari soon.
President Trump will be traveling again at the end of October. He's heading to Malaysia, Japan, and Korea from October 26-29.
They say "Silence is violence," right? Well, if that's the case, Senate Democrats were violent on Tuesday in their assiduous avoidance of a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing regarding the troubling "Quiet Skies" program in which the TSA placed American citizens — including several members of Congress and current Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard — under surveillance...for unknown reasons and with no apparent benefit.
Empower Oversight's Tristan Leavitt and Racket News' Matt Taibbi were among those who testified in a hearing that...was mostly peaceful — not because of heavy bipartisan agreement on the matter, but because the Democrats, aside from Sen. Gary Peters (MI), couldn't be bothered to show up for it.
The Trump administration, via DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, has ended the program. But the concerning reach of it and the blithe manner in which the federal government surveilled its citizens for years are beyond troubling — something you'd think that Democrats would be just as concerned about as Republicans, particularly as the party not in power at the moment. But...apparently not.
