On Tuesday, Trump posted "Breaking News" on his Truth Social platform about new developments surrounding his lawsuit against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount that's bound to produce more rending of garments and gnashing of teeth.

Just like ABC and George Slopadopoulos, CBS and its Corporate Owners knew that they defrauded the American People, and were desperate to settle. After late night hosts Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Seth Myers, and Jimmy Fallon slobbered over soon-to-be retired CBS fauxmedian Stephen Colbert because his late-night show was slated for cancellation by CBS, expect this announcement to send them all screaming into the void, not to mention manufacturing more conspiracy theories about who will be the next victim of Trump's wrath: because they love nothing more than to play the victim.

At the end of October 2024, private citizen and former President Trump sued CBS and Paramount Global for the deceptively edited 60 Minutes interview with former VP and then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, which aired a month before the 2024 election. CBS edited the video to remove Harris' typical rambling, word salad-y responses, and inserted different wording from her that made it appear as though they were her original responses. Trump was not the only one who called this out, and 60 Minutes was rightly maligned for the fraudulent editing, especially since it was so close to an election. Public pressure pushed the FCC to mount an investigation, and the raw 60 Minutes footage of the Harris interview was ultimately released, putting CBS' deception on full display. Trump won, Kamala Harris lost, and CBS could no longer try to sweep it under the rug.
By the end of May 2025, CBS/Paramount tried to beg Trump off with $15 million, because now that Trump was president, it was more bad PR, coupled with their desired multi-million dollar merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media being put in jeopardy. After all, it was an FCC that was under the Trump administration, and Paramount's controlling shareholder Shari Redstone had made it known that she feared it would have an adverse effect on the merger. Trump's lawyers rejected this attempt at a deal, and instead demanded another $25 million and an apology from CBS News.

On July 1, Paramount Global/CBS and Trump's legal team reached an acceptable settlement. Trump received $16 million upfront, but at that time the full dollar amount of the settlement had not been disclosed.
Now that we know the full dollar amount and the parameters of the settlement are out, this will reverberate through legacy media outlets even more than the initial decision. The settlement also may not bode well for Trump's targets in other pending media lawsuits.
