NextImg:More Democrat Meltdowns Incoming As D.C. Police Chief Makes Notable Concession on ICE Cooperation

Washington, D.C., has been in the news a lot in recent weeks, thanks in part to some high-profile violent crimes that have taken place as well as President Donald Trump's response to them, which was to federalize the city's law enforcement in an effort to combat lawlessness.

The Democrat meltdowns, of course, commenced immediately, with some declaring it was a "distraction," a troubling power grab, with others even going so far as to make the predictable comparisons to Nazi Germany.

For instance, in a recent MSNBC interview, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D), rumored to be considering a 2028 presidential run, stated that, "the Nazis tore down the constitutional republic in Germany in the early 1930s. It doesn't take much. And we're seeing pieces of that sort of authoritarian activity happening right now in this country."

On Thursday, however, our nation's capital was in the news for a different reason that will likely prompt more Democrat meltdowns, due to an executive order signed by D.C.'s police chief, Pamela Smith, regarding cooperation with immigration enforcement agents:

D.C. police are now allowed to notify federal immigration enforcement agencies of people who are not in custody, including during traffic stops, the chief of police said in an executive order Thursday. It comes four days into President Donald Trump’s takeover of the city’s police department.

A memo from Chief of Police Pamela Smith says members of the Metropolitan Police Department may assist with “sharing information about persons not in MPD custody” and “providing transportation for federal immigration agency employees and detained subjects.”

While this is a notable departure from the sanctuary city's previous stances against working closely with ICE, it still limits the cooperation (PDF of the EO):

....members shall not make any inquiry through any database solely for the purpose of inquiring about an individual’s immigration status. Members shall not make inquiries into any person’s immigration status for the purpose of determining whether they have violated the civil immigration laws or for the purpose of enforcing civil immigration laws.

[...]

Members shall not arrest individuals based solely on federal immigration warrants or detainers as long as there is no additional criminal warrant or underlying offense for which the individual is subject to arrest.

Other limitations include not providing ICE with the "date and time of release, location, address, personal identifying information, medical information, photograph, or criminal case information" of/on any suspect in the custody of the Metropolitan Police Department:

On August 5th, the Department of Justice shared a list of sanctuary jurisdictions that were on their radar, and the District of Columbia was among them.

Editor's Note: The days of lawlessness in Washington, D.C. are over. Thanks to President Trump, our nation's capital will be SAFE once again.
