Oh, no! Wealthy celebrities and academics, worried about the (booming, prosperous, safe) state of the nation under the Trump administration, are emigrating to Canada. Whatever will we do?

My suggestion: Smile and wave goodbye.

As America’s elite increasingly seek "golden" visas across the globe, others are seeking "refugee status" closer to home.

Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board released data highlighting a spike in Americans moving to the Land of the Maple Leaf.

The data, shared Thursday, found that more Americans applied for refugee status in Canada in the first half of 2025 than in all of 2024, Reuters reported.

There have been 245 refugee claims so far this year, with 204 claims filed last year.

The 245 Americans who applied surpassed the numbers of each previous full year since 2019, according to Reuters.

Refugee status? Refugee from what? Prosperity? Safe streets? A secure border? Frankly, these people are unhinged, and their absence won't be noticed.

Turns out that they aren't all going to Canada; some of the wealthier ones are seeking more exotic climes than America's Hat.

David Lesperance, a lawyer who represents ultra-high net-worth families, told Axios he is seeing people move to the U.K.

"A lot of the movement that we're now seeing of Americans moving … would be people who don't want to live in Trump's America," said Lesperance.

Sure, the United Kingdom, with its cities in ever-increasing disarray, with its crackdowns on free speech, with its spiraling energy prices; that's a great destination. Of course, these "ultra-high net-worth" families can afford to insulate themselves from the effects of the bad policies in their destinations, while still allowing them to virtue-signal from abroad. As long as they don't wave a British flag or criticize the hordes of immigrants from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, they'll be fine.

And then there are those headed for warmer climates:

Canada-based Mohamed Bennis, an associate vice president at Arton Capital, previously spoke with Fox News Digital about the increase in "golden" visas.

And:

He said that Malta, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Portugal are becoming increasingly popular for Americans seeking residency or citizenship through investment.

The UAE? Seriously?

Look, I'm a big fan of self-determination. If Trump's (prosperous, safe, healthy, secure) United States doesn't appeal, then as far as I'm concerned, my only request of these would-be emigrants is "don't let the screen door hit you in the a** on the way out." The only thing disappointing about this is that there are, to date, only 245 people leaving. You could multiply that number many times, and it still wouldn't be enough leftist nutbars headed out for what they think are greener pastures. Maybe the Trump administration can start up an ad campaign? Tips and tricks for refugees from the Trump dystopia? "How to win friends and influence people, in Canada?"

I remember when I was a kid, some distant cousins on my Mom's side, who were distinctly unsavory types, moved away from the area. My Grandma commented, "Well, that's the only time anyone's been glad to see any of their backsides." That applies, I think, in this case, as well.

Still, though, we should strive to be charitable. Never let it be said that I'm not helpful to leftists wanting to flee the United States. After a brief search, I found this video, which gives some helpful information on Canada for newcomers.
