NextImg:Michelle Obama Twists the Knife: 'Hope Is Making a Comeback.' But Where'd It Go in the First Place?

The DNC has seemed like an unwelcome blast from the past this week, as we were treated to speeches by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and were reminded about how nice it’s been to not have them in the news cycle every day.

We also got a healthy dose of Michelle Obama, and although her sycophantic Democratic fan base and the media will describe her speech as right up there with the Gettysburg Address, and Vogue will probably devote five more covers to her, I thought it was an angry, race-baiting, divisive commentary that proved once again why many find her somewhat toxic. To me, she spent most of the evening looking like she wanted to punch someone in the face.

But it was one section in particular that stood out to me as she twisted the knife deeper into the back of the man who the Obamas just helped shove aside, the man Michelle’s husband Barack would later say in his own speech was his “friend” and that choosing him as his vice president was his “best decision.” Interesting that Joe Biden wasn’t there to hear about the beautiful friendship—he had jetted off to a billionaire donor’s ranch as soon as possible, apparently angry over the way he’d been treated.

Here’s Michelle:

Hope is a “familiar feeling that’s been buried far too long,” she said

“Hope is making a comeback!” she enthused. Wait—where did it go in the first place?! Haven’t the Democrats been in power for the last three and a half years—and 11 ½ a half out of the last 16 years? Seeing that this is the case, how could it possibly make a comeback when the #2 person in the administration who caused its loss would be in charge if Michelle gets her wish?

It’s nonsensical.

If I weren’t so disgusted with Joe’s terrible record and his divisive speeches, I’d almost feel sorry for him as he has figuratively just been tossed in front of a moving freight train.

It was like much of the rest of night two of the convention: lots of talking about hope and yet zero acknowledgment that Kamala Harris is at least partly responsible for the loss of this hope. Almost no talk, however, about her record or what she would do as president.

Fox News pundit Brit Hume beautifully shredded Michelle's hypocrisy:

I can’t imagine a person with the life she’s had, a product of Princeton and Harvard, a First Lady of the United States, a magnificent house on Martha’s Vineyard worth about $12 million and a home in Hawaii, why is she still looking for hope.

Well said. If you're Joe Biden, meanwhile, you've just learned that when it comes to power, the Macbeths have nothing on the Democrats.
