Since the government shutdown began looming weeks ago, the press has been doing its part to spin the reality of what was transpiring. Advance blame was lodged against Trump and the Republicans, and even with the glaring reality of a clean Continuing Resolution bill presented to the Senate, the Democrats voted against the measure, with only an insufficient handful willing to cross the aisle.

To get a sense of the obfuscation and recalibration of facts by the media, look at one component. Notice how many Democrat members of the House have been granted airtime to deliver scalding commentary about their GOP members, claiming they are doing nothing to fix the issue and are absent this week during such a serious time. Not said in all of this acidic finger-pointing is one reality they want us to ignore – the House already passed the CR. Blaming this on House Republicans makes zero sense, yet this balloon juice is allowed to stand when spoken on the news nets.

Democrats Walk Right Into the Shutdown Trap, Immediately Crash and Burn

CNN has been mostly dutiful in this Democratic Party support, challenging Republicans on the regular, while giving their opponents on the left teed-up questions to permit their narratives to unspool. Note, they even fact-checked Mike Johnson for saying this is a Democratic Party shutdown as if it were an established fact (it is). Mike Johnson has been adept in delivering calm and rational rebuttals, providing the facts in a way that derails much of the discussion, leading to deflective commentary and other accusatory questions.

On page 57 of the Democrat’s OWN bill - they insist we restore $200 BILLION in health care subsidies for illegal aliens.  

CNN must correct this.

Kaitlan Collins has been one of those who have had the toughest time on that network this week. When she spoke with Speaker Johnson Tuesday night ahead of the shutdown, she tried to lecture him on the legislation she had “looked at.” It is fair to say she was out of her depth, as it stands to logic that Johnson has a more comprehensive grasp of the contents of the Democrat plan. 

Next, we have Colins trying to go to battle with Scott Jennings over this particular cause of the shutdown, and she is caught trying to play a version of the shell game. On the matter of illegals getting health coverage, she first tries to insist that it is illegal for non-citizens to get that coverage. She is trying to elide the fact that the Democrat proposal is looking to roll back that very detail. Then she tries to deflect by saying no illegals are covered by Obamacare.

That is a pure dodge on her part, as the issue concerns Medicaid coverage for illegals, which they do in fact receive. Jennings does not allow Kaitlan to slither with this maneuver, and he even ties up Collins ally Karen Finney, who at first denied conflating Obamacare and Medicaid, but then shortly after had to admit they are in fact separate healthcare operations.

The way this operates is that illegal aliens use ER facilities, and the hospitals are bound by law to treat them. This is a result of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), passed back in 1986. The way this operates is that while at the hospital, the alien is placed on Emergency Medicaid, and then that program reimburses the hospital for the expenses. Knowing this, Collins invokes Obamacare as something that illegals cannot obtain, which is the comprehensive government healthcare system.

So we see the games that the press, and specifically CNN, are attempting to play in this dustup over the government shutdown. In a rare instance of sound journalism, Jake Tapper actually challenged Hakeem Jeffries on this blatant lie concerning their desire to fund illegal alien healthcare. With a copy of the Democratic proposal in hand, he cites the very passage that contains that provision.

Jeffries squirms at this presentation, but Tapper should continue with the revealing practice; he should send a highlighted copy of his sheets to Kaitlan Collins.

The hilarious aspect in all of this is the sheer volume of Democrats and members of the press who feign outrage at the suggestion that they want illegals to have healthcare coverage. This is the party, let’s remind everyone, that saw during the 2020 primary debate how every single Democratic candidate attested that giving illegals healthcare was in their agenda.
