Things are looking up in Washington, D.C., and we have the Trump administration to thank for it. Homeless enclaves have been cleared away, and the streets and neighborhoods are cleaner, quieter, and safer. The work, however, isn't done yet. On Wednesday, FBI Director Kash Patel lauded his and other law enforcement agencies for actions in the District of Columbia. He also vowed that the FBI will not stop its operations in the national capital until "every neighborhood is safe."
FBI Director Kash Patel said that his agency will continue pouring resources into combating crime in Washington, D.C., until "every community is safe."
Patel said in a Wednesday post on X that 550 people have been arrested in Washington, D.C., since President Donald Trump moved to federalize the Metropolitan Police Department. Of those arrests, 66 were on Tuesday.
Patel said the FBI was involved in 41 of the arrests on Tuesday night, with eight drug seizures and six illegal firearms recovered.
Director Patel took to his official X account to count coup:

...recovered 6 illegal firearms with 8 drug seizures. Saving lives every day. Thanks to the men and women in the field.
Director Patel isn't the only one pointing up the success of this effort:

While federal assistance gives us a boost, we must repeal the misguided Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Act in order to make these changes permanent.
Those are some impressive statistics.

At present, though, the enhanced police and National Guard presence is operating under a deadline; the president has declared a state of emergency, federalized the District's Metropolitan Police Department under Section 740 of the Home Rule Act, and can keep them in that status for 30 days. The state of emergency is, according to the administration, what allows the president to send in federal law enforcement and the D.C. National Guard.
Critics of the federal involvement point out that crime in D.C. was already trending downward. That may well be an utter falsehood.
The Department of Justice announced on Tuesday it's investigating whether crime data was manipulated by police in Washington, D.C., In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: "D.C. gave Fake Crime numbers in order to create a false illusion of safety."
The FBI on Wednesday announced the agency will publish reported crime data monthly, instead of less-frequent updates.
You can view these updated crime data reports here.
The question is this: How many goblins who were previously accustomed to preying on the people of the District have now simply gone underground, to wait out this 30-day timeline? That's the real question, and it's one to which we won't know the answer until if - and when - the law enforcement in the District of Columbia returns to its previous level.
