White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt hammered CNN following a report claiming the White House failed to notify key Democratic leaders about the Iran strikes before the operation was launched.
CNN cited multiple sources who said GOP leaders were briefed on the U.S. airstrikes that took out Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities, but "top Democrats were not told of his plans until after the bombs had dropped."
Leavitt took to X to call out the report as "fake news" and requested the outlet retract the story.
"The White House made bipartisan courtesy calls to Congressional Leadership and spoke to @SenSchumer before the strike," she wrote. "@RepJeffries could not be reached until after, but he was briefed."
Leavitt provided further details to Fox News Monday morning, confirming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was, in fact, briefed. Her comments regarding the White House's difficulty with getting in touch with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) are startling considering the circumstances.

“The White House made calls to congressional leadership. They were bipartisan calls. In fact, Hakeem Jeffries couldn’t be reached. We tried him before the strike, and he did not pick up the phone, but he was briefed after, as well as Chuck Schumer was briefed before prior to the strike,” Leavitt said.
“So this notion that CNN ran with that the White House did not give a heads-up to Democrats is just completely false."
The press secretary said CNN and Schumer both "had to retract" the story after the White House "showed them the timestamps from those phone calls.”
The article now appears with a correction at the top stating, "Schumer was called before the strike, not after as initially reported," and they added Leavitt's remarks regarding Jeffries.
Interestingly, the CNN column now states that their sources admit the administration "made multiple efforts to reach Jeffries in advance of the strikes after talking to Schumer."
Aside from failing to prove the entire premise of their article, CNN nailed it here. Still, they did not retract the story as Leavitt initially suggested.
Regarding Jeffries, the White House's inability to get in touch with a top Democratic leader on an issue with crucial national security implications is mind-boggling.
It's not like he wasn't aware of the simmering tensions ongoing in the Middle East. The administration tried to reach him "multiple" times to keep him posted on a major airstrike, and he ghosted them?
What kind of ‘leader’ fails to pick up the phone when the White House is calling once, let alone several times?
Thank goodness the adults in the room recognized that national security waits for no one, especially Temu Obama.
Although initially unable to find time for the White House, Jeffries managed to issue a statement condemning the President for carrying out the airstrikes without congressional authorization.
"President Trump misled the country about his intentions, failed to seek congressional authorization for the use of military force, and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East," he wrote.
If the situation were that dire, why didn't you take the call?
