NextImg:Jussie Smollett Returns to TV on ‘Special Forces’ Reality Show After Proving His Mettle in MAGA Country

Jussie Smollett is set to make a bold and triumphant return to television, showcasing his resilience on the reality television series "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test" on Fox.

Smollett and the 18-person cast for Season Four of the quasi-military training competition will face grueling challenges to prove their strength and determination.

Fox describes the show as "a test unlike any other" in which celebrities "try to survive demanding training exercises led by ... an elite team of ex-Special Forces operatives."

"Viewers see the recruits face the harshest of environments that simulate the highly classified selection process, pushing themselves in the ultimate test of their physical, mental and emotional resilience and revealing the celebrities' deepest and truest character."

Try Not to Laugh: Race Hoaxer Jussie Smollett Goes on Wild Social Media Tirade Proclaiming Innocence

Smollett should coast through these challenges. Producers will no doubt be hard-pressed to come up with any test tougher than what the man known as "Juicy", thanks to Dave Chappellehas, has already gone through.

Smollett, as we're sure you recall, claimed Trump supporters assaulted him for being gay and black. That his assailants were white and used slurs during the attack. And he would claim the incident took place outside a Subway restaurant in Chicago at 2 a.m. in the middle of a polar vortex.

Totally believable stuff right out of the gate.

The cherry on top of this ridiculous story was Jussie's claim that the assailants yelled “this is MAGA country” during the attack. In Chicago. Chicago is MAGA country.

None of it happened, of course. He conducted a national television audience interview to tell his version of events and cried – no, wept – over the attack. But it didn’t happen.

As my RedState colleague Bob Hoge pointed out, the legal battle between Smollett and the city of Chicago, which accused him of making up the story and wasting law enforcement resources to investigate, was a convoluted rollercoaster of an affair ending with the actor agreeing to pay a $50,000 setllement to a local charity.

Seriously, though, what are these "Special Forces" possibly going to do to Jussie that's worse than forcing him outside in -16 degree weather and having him get punched WWE-style by two Nigerian-American bodybuilding brothers while having bleach poured on him?

He's probably thinking, "Bring it on, boys," at this very moment.

Smollett has insisted he did not lie and make up the clearly made-up story. Repeatedly.

Smollett rose to prominence as an actor on "Empire" before getting involved in the hate crime hoax, an oddly popular series on Fox that ran from 2015 to 2020 and was one of the network's most watched shows.

That makes "Special Forces" a reunion of sorts for the disgraced actor and Fox.

The show's premiere will be Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
