There’s at least one prominent Democrat who won’t be attending the Democrat circus convention in Chicago which starts Monday: Pennsylvania senator John Fetterman. He said he would rather spend the time with his three kids, but the fact that he’s at odds with many of his colleagues over his outspoken support of Israel can’t be ignored either.

In fact, his own communications director undermined him Sunday after Fetterman was interviewed by the Free Press. The spox, named Carrie Adams, talked to the reporter after the senator was done:

The Free Press reported Sunday that Carrie Adams told him of her disagreement after the senator hung up the call.

"I don’t agree with him," Adams, the lawmaker’s communications director, reportedly said.

Adams went on to claim that Fetterman, at 55, has "less nuanced" views on global policy than people her age.

"[W]hen he was growing up, it was might-makes-right, and for my generation and younger who, of course, are the ones protesting this, they have a much more nuanced view of the region."

The veteran reporter, who's been writing since 1998, was stunned:

This was the first time I’d ever encountered anyone—on Capitol Hill or anywhere else, on the record, off the record, on background, whatever—criticizing “the principal.” 

Many were outraged that a staffer would so publicly humiliate their boss.

If you cannot get with program, then you should no longer be part of the program.

New York Post columnist John Podhoretz noted that Adams has set her X feed to private:

It will be interesting to see how long that relationship lasts—if it makes it through the day, that is.

Fetterman said Sunday he’d rather enjoy some family time than head to Chicago:

“I’ve got three young kids, and they’re out of school,” he said. “That’s four days I can spend with my children.”

It’s also four days he can avoid his colleagues, many of whom are not happy with him.

Fetterman has been cast as a pariah by the party’s progressives, largely because of his staunch support of Israel amid the war in Gaza. He’s been an outspoken supporter of Israel, and stands to the right of more progressive Democrats on the issue...

Fetterman has posted photos in his office of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas in October. Fetterman criticized Biden when the president mulled withholding weapons from Israel, and has clashed with constituents because he won’t call for a cease-fire.
