NextImg:Jeanine Pirro Nails D.C. Crime Problem After Reporter Admits Being Robbed at Gunpoint

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro perfectly explained the rampant crime problem in the nation's capital when a reporter admitted being robbed at gunpoint and said his assailant "got away with it."

During a White House press briefing on Monday, Pirro discussed why President Donald Trump's announcement of federalizing law enforcement in the nation's capital was necessary. It came after a reporter admitted that Trump's move to rescue the capital from crime was a personal issue to him, after a young criminal robbed him.

Big: Trump Administration Takes Control of the District of Columbia

"Last year I was robbed on the street [In DC] by one of these teenage thugs," the reporter explained to Trump and Pirro. "Had a gun. He got away with it. Let's talk about the effort that between law enforcement, prosecutors in D.C., and judges because these kids don't fear the police."

"Talk about how we've got to get these judges and put these kids behind bars," he added. "Adult crimes deserve adult penalties."

Trump agreed with the reporter, then let Pirro answer the question.

"Here's the problem...if they're under 18 years of age, I can only get the case if it's murder, rob 1, rape, even if they shoot a gun but don't kill you, I can't get it," the D.C. US Attorney said. "So the law has to be changed."

"As the president said, cashless bail, that has to be changed," she added, pointing out that the next problem is that "the D.C. council has given judges the ability to give probation on shootings."

At the start of the presser, Trump cited the "out of control" crime in D.C. for the move, including rampant gang activity, homeless crime, and repeat offenders, as RedState reported.

Pirro followed him and said these actions are necessary to "make criminals understand that they are not going to get away with it anymore."

"We all want the same thing. We all want a safe city. We want a safe capital," Pirro said, praising Trump for taking "the steps."

"What I can tell you is this, I see too much violent crime being committed by young punks," she added. "Who thinks that they can get together in gangs and crews and beat the hell out of you or anyone else. They don't care where they are. But they know that we can't touch them. Why? Because the laws are weak."

"We need to go after the D.C. council and their absurd laws. We need to get rid of this concept of no cash bail," Pirro continued. "We need to recognize that the people who matter are the law-abiding citizens — and it starts TODAY ... @POTUS is going to make sure these emboldened criminals understand: We see you, we're watching you, and we're going to change the law to catch you…It ends today."

My RedState colleague Sister Toldjah also reported on the steps Trump is taking.

She wrote:

Trump's announcement came in the aftermath of some recent high-profile violent crimes in D.C., including the June 30 murder of Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, who was an intern for Rep. Ron Estes (R-KS), and the violent August 3rd assault on former DOGE staffer Edward Coristine, 19, who reportedly was coming to the defense of a woman who was allegedly being carjacked.

Not surprisingly, the mainstream media and Democrats oppose the move, citing questionable crime statistics for D.C. that are now the subject of an investigation.

As that investigation plays out, the Washington Post, of all places, filed a report underscoring the fact that, rising crime rates or not, the residents of Washington, D.C. don't feel safe.

Editor's Note: The days of lawlessness in Washington, D.C. are over. Thanks to President Trump, our nation's capital will be SAFE once again.
