NextImg:Jeanine Pirro Confirmed by Senate As Washington, DC's Top Prosecutor

The squabbling in the Senate continued Saturday as Democrats continue to gum up the works and deny confirmations for President Trump’s nominations for various posts. They did, however, manage to take at least one important vote, and Jeanine Pirro got through by a 50-45 tally. She can now take the word “Interim” off her title as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Although the GOP scored a victory on that one, not everything went smoothly:

The onetime New York judge and prosecutor and former Fox News host was one of the over 150 still outstanding nominees on the Senate’s calendar as Senate Republicans work to find a path forward to ram through Senate Democrats’ blockade of Trump’s nominees, and part of a slew of picks to get a vote over the weekend. But just ahead of her confirmation vote, the path to a deal was derailed, and lawmakers opted to ram through just seven of Trump’s nominees before heading home until September.

Many know her as an outspoken Fox News personality who regularly co-hosts “The Five,” but “Judge Jeanine,” as she’s commonly known, also has a lengthy legal history as noted by the Department of Justice website:

Jeanine Ferris Pirro was sworn-in as interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia on May 14, 2025.

Judge Pirro has more than three decades of experience in law enforcement. She served as an Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, NY, before becoming the first female judge elected to the Westchester County Court. Judge Pirro was the first woman elected to serve as Westchester County District Attorney for three consecutive terms and was the first female president of the New York State District Attorneys Association.

Ms. Pirro has the distinction of starting the first domestic violence unit in a prosecutor’s office in the nation, followed by several other victim-focused programs.  She is the author of eight books including New York Times best sellers.

In July, she vowed to clean up Washington, D.C., among other priorities:

I am cutting the red tape and pushing back against the sanctuary city status of D.C. so that we can protect the hard-working citizens of our nation’s capital. No longer will illegals be found burrowing in our cases in the criminal justice system.

I don’t see that the president has commented yet on the confirmation on social media, but he said this in May:

"Jeanine is incredibly well-qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York," Trump said when he nominated Pirro. "She is in a class by herself."

Democrats had tried and failed to paint her as an extremist who defended Trump on television regarding the events of Jan. 6 and his concerns that there was evidence of fraud in the 2020 election. During a committee meeting in July, Senate Dems walked out in a snit over procedural matters concerning Pirro and Emil Bove, who was later confirmed for a spot as judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals.
