As so many of us mourn the assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk, news has broken that his friend—the vice president of the United States, JD Vance—will take over hosting duties Monday morning and try to fill the gaping hole left by Charlie’s loss.
“Please join me as I pay tribute to my friend,” the VP wrote:
Vance also eulogized his compatriot in a long, moving post to social media after the senseless killing.
While it’s a long post, and you should click on it to read the whole thing, he movingly wrote:
I was in a meeting in the West Wing when those group chats started lighting up with people telling Charlie they were praying for him. And that's how I learned the news that my friend had been shot. I prayed a lot over the next hour, as first good news and then bad trickled in.
God didn't answer those prayers, and that's OK. He had other plans. And now that Charlie is in heaven, I'll ask him to talk to big man directly on behalf of his family, his friends, and the country he loved so dearly.
You ran a good race, my friend.
We've got it from here.

They had become friends even before the now VP was chosen by Trump.
Vance and Kirk were close friends for many years – long before the now-VP was even involved in politics.
He noted that Kirk was one of the first people he reached out to when he decided to run for the US Senate in 2021, and that Kirk helped connect him with others who could help shape his campaign – including Donald Trump Jr.
He added that Kirk was one of his most dedicated advocates over the years, and even guided Trump’s VP selection until they landed on Vance.
The show will be available on a number of platforms Monday; check https://thecharliekirkshow.com/listenlive and/or here Rumble.com/CharlieKirk to find out how you can tune in.
Vigils continue across the globe as the ramifications of this atrocity sink in. But as Charlie’s memory, his wife Erika, JD Vance, and so many others are proving, his vision and his passion will not be in vain.
He will be remembered.
