NextImg:JD Vance Has a Little Fun With South Park's Depiction of Him

I previously wrote about the DHS X account taking a trailer from the latest episode of "South Park" about ICE, and turning it into a recruitment ad. That was funny. But the response from the "South Park" X account wasn't funny - it was angry, ranting at the DHS with a hashtag "#eatabagofd**ks." When the government is funnier than your show, your show might just have a problem.

Unfortunately for "South Park," the episode also showed they had a problem - it wasn't funny. Just like the post, it was angry and kind of lame. It didn't make me mad, it didn't engage me enough, and that's sort of the kiss of death for a show. It just seemed to be about ranting and trying to reuse old memes to hold the show up.

The episode revolved around guidance counselor Mr. Mackey's decision to join ICE to make money after being fired from South Park Elementary and portrayed ICE as having no hiring standards and just wanting to go after brown people, even if they had to chase the nice brown people down in heaven. They even have a line, "If you're brown, you're going down," from DHS head Kristi Noem. Mackey then gets a trip to Mar-a-Lago, which "South Park" envisions as a house of debauchery. My description is funnier than the show. Unfortunately, this kind of stuff isn't going to help them stay relevant after 27 years.

This "South Park" X-post was frankly one of the few funny things they did around the episode.

Now, that was kind of funny, envisioning President Donald Trump as Mr. Roarke and Tattoo from "Fantasy Island," while leaning into the "Make a Meme of JD Vance" thing for relevance. Although some on X noted that you might not get the "Fantasy Island" thing if you're younger. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough of that.

Once again, the Trump team flipped the script, with Vice President JD Vance's response to that post, "Well, I've finally made it."

If the point of the "South Park" ranting was trying to make people mad, the Trump team is just turning it around and leaning into it. The Trump team is again ending up funnier than the show itself.

The reaction also puts paid to the leftist narrative that the Trump team is trying to squelch criticism or dissent. They're just mocking it, laughing at it, or rolling with it. The bottom line? It isn't the folks on the right trying to shut down speech - it never has been. Say whatever you want, that's the whole point - we defend that, unlike folks on the left who try to cancel people who disagree with them. Maybe try to be truly funny, and not just ranty.

Vance previously showed he enjoyed the Vance meme mockery people were engaging in, even reposting one.

A sense of humor is a great quality in any leader, particularly one who may have thoughts for higher office in the future.
