There are a lot of predictable things Democrats say and do that, for conservatives, is like hearing fingernails dragging across a chalkboard. But I have to say that getting lectures from any of them regarding alleged "threats to democracy" and "signs of authoritarianism" absolutely rank among the most grating.
We hear an awful lot of that type of language anytime a Republican is elected president, and that has especially been true for President Donald Trump, who endured it for one full term along with a relentless 8-year lawfare campaign done in part on grounds that he was supposedly a "threat to democracy" for something that didn't happen: collusion with Russia in the 2016 election.
The "dictator" accusations are, of course, flying again as we speak, with Democrats and their media allies having meltdowns over Trump federalizing law enforcement in Washington, D.C., to combat lawlessness in hopes of making the city great - and safer - again.

Interestingly, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) has become sort of a central figure for the Resistance effort in Trump's second term, with the fleeing Texas Democrats running to his state and treating him like a beacon of democracy on redistricting even though Illinois is one of the most heavily gerrymandered states in America under decades of corrupt Democrat rule - including Pritzker's.
Pritzker, who is rumored to have his eye on a 2028 presidential run, has eagerly embraced the role, and in one recent interview, the Nazi comparisons reared their ugly heads, with Pritzker stating, "the Nazis tore down the constitutional republic in Germany in the early 1930s. It doesn't take much. And we're seeing pieces of that sort of authoritarian activity happening right now in this country."
He highlighted his remarks in a post on X, proclaiming that "tyranny requires your fear and your silence and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage."
It was a bit too much for those who remembered Pritzker's reign of terror during the COVID-19 pandemic, with him enjoying "emergency [draconian] powers" for over three years:
Here's one story about it from March 2023:
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker declared COVID-19 a disaster in Illinois for the 40th time. Illinois is 1 of only 6 states still using COVID-19 to declare a public health emergency.
[...]
None of Illinois’ neighbor states are ruled through emergency powers. Illinois is one of just six states nationwide still calling the COVID-19 pandemic an emergency, with five of the six led by Democratic governors.
Let us also not forget that in the early months of the pandemic, members of Pritzker's family were in Florida and Wisconsin at various points as Pritzker's stay-at-home order was in place. When Republicans and members of the media called him out for it, instead of apologizing for being a hypocrite, he condemned the attacks and demanded they stop, accusing critics of inciting threats against his family:
On April 29, Pritzker testily responded to a question about a Patch.com report that his wife and family had gone to Florida amid the governor’s stay-at-home orders.
“My official duties have nothing to do with my family. So, I’m not going to answer that question. It’s inappropriate and I find it reprehensible,” he said of stories about his family.
[...]
Pritzker said on Friday he hoped that an unnamed Republican super political action committee “that’s pushing stories like this about my family, would stop doing it because they are putting my children and family in danger.”
In other words, rules for thee but not for me, and don't you dare question me on it, you insolent rube.
Yeah... no. We should take lectures from this guy on "democracy" and "authoritarianism" to heart on like the 12th of Never, thank you very much.
