On Saturday, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a brief address, which appeared on X; the Israeli leader wished the United States Army and President Trump each a happy birthday, but also made some interesting and alarming statements about Iran.
On the US Army and President Trump, the Israeli PM said in part:
I want to start by wishing a double happy birthday. First, happy birthday to you, President Donald J. Trump. You've been an extraordinary leader, decisive, courageous, clear vision, clear action. You've done great things for Israel, you've been an extraordinary friend to the Jewish state.
And:
I want to wish also, a 250th happy birthday to the American army. The men and women of the armed services of the United States have protected freedom for two and a half centuries. We would not have a free world without you.
But the real gist of PM Netanyahu's statement came in his words about Iran, and he made an unsettling assertion.
Right now, the Iranian regime is bombing our civilian neighborhoods while we are targeting the terrorists. Now this is not new. They've tried to assassinate President Trump twice. They bombed American embassies. They killed 241 Marines in Beirut. They killed and injured thousands of Americans with their IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan. They've burned the American flag, they chant endlessly, "Death to America." Our enemy is your enemy. And by doing what we're doing, we're dealing with something that will threaten all of us. Sooner or later. Our victory will be your victory.
Iran is and has been the world's #1 exporter of Islamic extremism and terrorism. They supply arms and training to their proxies in the Middle East and elsewhere; this is not in question. But there's more. Here's the onion:
We have indications that senior leaders in Iran are already packing their bags. They sense what's coming. I'll tell you what would have come if we hadn't acted. We had information that his unscrupulous regime was planning to give the nuclear weapons that they would develop to their terrorist proxies. That's nuclear terrorism on steroids. That would threaten the entire world.
This would have had the potential to make Hamas and Hezbollah nuclear powers.

The first layer of this stinker is Iran's callous disregard for human lives, even Muslim lives, but that's nothing new. The regime of the mullahs has always conducted itself that way, and always will, as long as they hold sway in Tehran. They kill other Muslims almost as enthusiastically as they kill Jews and Westerners.
The second layer, though, is the worst, although it's not as surprising as we might think. I've said and written for years, we'll know when Iran develops a nuclear weapon because they'll use it. The Islamic Republic is run by a cabal of evil-hearted stone age barbarians in an apocalyptic death cult, and they have no regard for lives other than their own - and they may see giving a nuke to, say, Hamas, as a way to salvage a little plausible deniability. It wouldn't work, but they may think so.
And Hamas could load a nuke in a cargo container onto a truck and drive it anywhere in the Middle East; anywhere they could get away with it. The October 7th attacks already gave them a dress rehearsal on breaching Israel's border.
That would seem to be forestalled, for now, since thanks to the Israeli Air Force, Iran's nuclear facilities have been carefully disassembled by a suitable application of high explosives. And that, folks, was worth doing.
