On Friday, an ICE officer was dragged by a vehicle driven by an illegal alien and seriously injured, but not before he was able to fire at the alien driving the vehicle. The event started with a targeted traffic stop, the intent of which was to take the illegal alien, one Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, into custody for eventual repatriation.
Fox News' Bill Melugin has details:
Chicago, we must note, is a "sanctuary" jurisdiction. It's not clear whether Villagas-Gonzalez was ever in the custody of local law enforcement, when the ICE agents would have been able to pick him up - if they were allowed to do so by the city.
The post continues:
I’m told by a senior ICE source that the officer suffered lacerations and significant leg injuries but is expected to be okay.
ICE statement on who they were targeting:
“ICE officers conducted a vehicle stop to arrest Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez. He refused to follow law enforcements commands and drove his car at law enforcement officers. One of the ICE officers was hit by the car and dragged a significant distance. Fearing for his own life, the officer fired his weapon.
The target of the enforcement operation was Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, a criminal illegal alien with a history of reckless driving. He entered the country at an unknown date and time.”
As we have covered here at RedState, Immigration & Customs Enforcement, the Border Patrol, and the Department of Homeland Security have seen a dramatic uptick in angry rhetoric, interference, assaults, and even outright attacks since the implementation of President Trump's illegal immigration agenda - by which we mean, enforcing the law.

The official Department of Homeland Security press release states in part:
“We are praying for the speedy recovery of our law enforcement officer. He followed his training, used appropriate force, and properly enforced the law to protect the public and law enforcement,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Viral social media videos and activists encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement not only spread misinformation, but also undermine public safety, as well as the safety of our officers and those being apprehended.”
The DHS release goes on to note that Villegas-Gonzalez had a history of reckless driving. It's not known when or where he entered the country, but it is known that he did so illegally. And, again, this is what we voted for; the easy way or the hard way, these people are going home. Villegas-Gonzalez chose the hard way.
We might note that the illegal alien's act here would have almost certainly fallen into the category of assault with a deadly weapon - his car - were it not for the fact that ICE has revoked his birth certificate.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
