Boy, Hunter Biden has sure had some amazing career moves! We might remember that Ukrainian oil company, for instance, which was so anxious to bring all of Hunter's vast experience in the energy sector on board that they not only paid him a five-figure (monthly!) salary, but didn't really expect him to do anything, other than to provide access to "the Big Guy." And then there was Hunter's storied art career; the most celebrated of his works could just as easily have been duplicated by giving a chimpanzee a bunch of open paint cans and a few brushes.
Now, Hunter's diving back into the workforce again, this time as "Director of Development" for a Los Angeles-based homeless prevention and tenant rights nonprofit org called BASTA.
Hunter Biden revealed he started a new job working with a nonprofit homeless prevention and tenants' rights group in southern Los Angeles.
The former president’s son made the announcement during an interview with "Channel 5" podcaster Andrew Callaghan, which was posted to YouTube on Tuesday.
"I just think there is such an opportunity to be of service right now – and not in, you know, some kind of melodramatic way – but I just, a lot of people that are, you know, getting the s--- beat out of them out there, right here in LA. And there is enormous opportunity for just normal people to do kind of heroic things," Biden said.
"I’m working with a group now called BASTA, the homeless prevention, and I just started actually as director of development for BASTA, which is the leading homeless prevention and tenants' rights group in southern Los Angeles," Biden added.
For once, Hunter may have hit something that's right up his alley; he does have experience, after all, in not paying his rent.
It's not at all clear what a "Director of Development" might do for a group that's involved in homelessness prevention and tenant rights; precisely what is being developed here, and what can Hunter Biden offer to that task? He can't really bank on the Biden name anymore; there's just no influence left to peddle, now that the Big Guy is parked in the sunshine with a pudding cup and a juice box, which, to be fair, is how he spent most of his presidency. This makes one wonder just what Hunter brings to the table? What, at the end of the day, is BASTA really trying to accomplish by hiring Joe's ne'er-do-well son?
If the odds of this being some kind of graft seem pretty high, well, the Biden family history sure leads one in that direction.
Biden told Callaghan that the organization protects people "from eviction, and we are the only group – at least in southern California – that represents undocumented and so we don’t take any federal money."
"It’s not just El Salvadorean (sic) immigrants, it’s Ukrainian immigrants that came here under duress from what is going on in Ukraine and find it really hard to find work because of the fear of employers. that they are going to disrupt their business because of ICE raids and things like that," the president’s son also said.
Did he say Ukraine? Yes, he said Ukraine.

I'll hazard a prediction here: Hunter Biden will be paid a quite comfortable salary to do next to nothing. I'm not sure why this is worth anything to BASTA, as the Bidens are no longer in the national spotlight, but they must be figuring that even Hunter Biden's name may open a few doors, which would seem to make it worthwhile for BASTA to open their checkbook. And if I seem excessively cynical about this, I can only say that I became that way through long experience and many years of observation of these people.
